The Resident Evil 2 remake may very well be in our midst for the very near future. This is what several fans seem to believe, especially with Capcom’s recent online activity seemingly teasing at such news.
Is Capcom Hinting at an Official Announcement of the Resident Evil 2 Remake?
As some may know, there have been rumors regarding the remake of the aforementioned entry in the Resident Evil video game series. In a seemingly timely move, the official Resident Evil Twitter account recently updated their Twitter banner to feature several titles under the franchise. Notably, however, the banner leaves out a blank space for what many predict may be an unannounced game. Some fans believe that this empty slot may be saved for a Resident Evil 2 remake.
Further fueling such rumors is the Western Twitter account of the series. Some netizens may have noticed a small update on the @RE_Games Twitter account. Currently, the account’s icon has been changed to feature a Resident Evil logo that closely resembles what was used in the remake announcement. Although the text is laid against a background from the latest game in the series, there’s no denying the similarities between the two.
Resident Evil 2 Anniversary
It’s also worth noting that Resident Evil 2’s 20th anniversary is coming up this month. The beloved game will be celebrating its 20th anniversary on January 21. Seeing as the project was first announced in 2015, now seems like a fitting time to release the remake that many fans have waited for. What better time to launch the remake than on the original game’s 20th anniversary?
What is Resident Evil 2?
For the uninitiated, Resident Evil 2 is the second installment in Capcom’s survival horror video game series, Resident Evil. First release in 1998, the title was originally available for the PlayStation. It is set two years after the events of the first Resident Evil game and focuses on its protagonists, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, as they navigate Raccoon City amidst a zombie outbreak. In Japan, the game is referred to as Biohazard 2.
Gameplay involves elements that are common in the survival horror genre, such the use of ammunition and limited saves. There are also aspects of exploration and puzzle-solving. Despite its release dating back to several years ago, Resident Evil 2 has amassed quite the cult following since its launch.
As to whether or not Capcom will deliver any news within the month regarding the game’s remake remains unknown. Still, many remain hopeful that this fan favorite will become more widely available on current generation consoles soon enough.
