BlizzCon to Feature Hearthstone World Championship; Champion will Receive $100,000!

By on

Blizzard is going to host the 2014 Hearthstone World Championship and they will be offering a total of $250,000 to the best players of their free to play card game. The event is slated to be held at the BlizzCon 2014.

First place in the tournament will net the winner a cool $100,000, second place gets $50,000, third and fourth places will each pocket $15,000, and the fifth through eighth place players will each receive $7,500. The ninth through 16th place finishers will still get $5,000 each. There will only be 16 players that will qualify for the tournament through four regional tournaments.

The qualifying tournaments are to be held in Europe, the Americas, China, and Korea-Taiwan groups. The announcement by Blizzard for the tournament came together with the European tournament qualifier format. The European tournament is practically identical to the American one. The top 16 ranked players will be invited to qualify alongside the winners of different community tournaments between April and August. The last remaining slots will be filled through Last Call Tournaments just prior to the qualifier. In total, there will be 130 qualifying slots to be offered.

For those who are based in Europe, these are the countries that are eligible to participate in the Last Call Tournament: Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Ukraine and The United Kingdom. It is important to know that the players should reside in these countries and must have achieved Legend rank on the European Ranked Play ladder at least once between April and August.

It should go without saying but players cannot compete in multiple qualifier tournaments. If a player qualifies for multiple tournaments, they must choose one to compete in.

Each region will have its own set of tournament comprehensive rules and not all countries are eligible to participate in the Hearthstone World Championship.

The finals of the tournament will be held at BlizzCon 2014 in Anaheim on November 7. This isn?t the first Hearthstone tournament though as Blizzard staged an eight player tournament last year even with the game still being in beta.

Hearthstone is also available on the iPad as we reported previously.
