Arc System Works has confirmed the cast of characters coming from three Arc System Works fighting game titles and one from an American anime series. However, many fans would still want some characters near to these titles to make it in this crossover fighting game.
Guilty Gear Characters
Out of Arc System Works titles, the Guilty Gear series is one of its known IPs before BlazBlue even came out. However, the first trailer didn’t include Guilty Gear as one of the franchises that this crossover game will pull its characters from. Most of BlazBlue’s characters feature some gameplay similarities from their Guilty Gear characters too. Fans would definitely love a Guilty Gear character to appear in this crossover fighting game to represent more characters. So far, the Guilty Gear Xrd series hasn’t released all of the fan favorites in the title yet. They could make an appearance in this crossover fighting game instead.
More Persona Characters
The Persona 4 main protagonist, Yu Narukami, has been featured as the first character for the Persona 4 Arena universe in this crossover game. However, many Persona fans were expecting the next Persona-themed fighting game would be “Persona 5 Arena” as the Persona 4 Arena director Kazuhisa Wada wants it to happen. More than just relying on the canon Persona fighting game roster, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle’s crossover plot can allow other characters like Shinjiro Aragaki and the Persona 3 protagonist to join the fight.
Melty Blood Characters
French Bread’s game, Under Night In-Birth, will also be one series that’ll be included in this crossover series. However, this title barely has any story progression and a wide universe to pick characters from. Previously, French Bread has worked on the Melty Blood fighting game series which features Type-Moon’s Tsukihime series. Under Night In-Birth has been considered to be a spiritual successor to this series up until Melty Blood HD gets released eventually.
Vast RWBY Cast
Previously, BlazBlue creator, Toshimichi Mori, has previously expressed interest in making a RWBY fighting game. He seems to be getting it in this entry. However, Ruby Rose’s appearance in the trailer didn’t even show her moves as a fighting game character. It’s highly possible that RWBY characters aren’t made yet as of the trailer. At best, the main RWBY characters plus the other hunter teams and notable villains could make it in this title.
There’s plenty of characters that can be included in Arc System Works’ game. Here’s the top 10 list:
Yang Xiao Long (RWBY)
She’s been known as a feisty brawler in the series with her shotgun gauntlets called, Ember Celica. The crossover title could use a short-range brawler character since it hasn’t shown one yet.
Sol Badguy (Guilty Gear)
One of the main Guilty Gear protagonists deserves to join this crossover series because of his tenure and popularity among Arc Systems Works fans. However, his movesets will clash directly with the BlazBlue protagonists, Ragna the Bloodedge, as they roughly do the same attacks.
Bridget (Guilty Gear)
Guilty Gear’s Bridget is one of its well-loved gimmick characters for his unique fighting style that uses Yo-Yos. Bridget has yet to appear in the Guilty Gear Xrd series even though the fans wanted him to be in as early as Xrd-Sign.
Satsuki Yumizuka (Melty Blood)
Satsuki Yumizuka has been regarded as a butt of jokes in the Melty Blood series but she is a fun grapple character to play with. Most Arc System Works grapplers are characterized with strong damage but lack speed to set them up aggressively. Most of Satsuki’s throws allow her to cover some space which make her a fun character if you want to mess with your foes’ defense.
Shinjiro Aragaki (Persona 3)
The Persona 4 Arena series has been considered to be a canon entry which prevents it from pulling its dead characters back to become playable. In the middle of Persona 3’s story, Aragaki becomes a party member but dies protecting another character as of the story events. Due to BlazBlue Cross Tag Battles’ dimension crossovers, he can be brought in easily without any regard for canonicity
Arcueid Brunestud (Melty Blood)
Arcueid is one of the Tsukihime’s main heroines that players like an all-around fighting game character in Melty Blood. The crossover title could use one more all-around character archetype to attract newcomers as they tend to be “easy to use but hard to master” characters. So far, the title already has four all-around characters namely Ragna the Bloodedge, Jin Kisaragi, Yu Narukami, and Under Night In-Birth’s Hyde who were shown in the first trailer.
Her appearance in the series was brief and barely seen again after Roman Torchwick was defeated in Volume 3. However, she did put up an interesting fight against Yang Xiao Long where she parried all and used Yang’s aggressive attacks against herself. Arc System Works already has experience with defensive gimmick characters like Hakumen and Baiken which Neo’s umbrella parries possible in the crossover fighting game.
Persona 5 Protagonist
Many fans and the Persona 4 Arena director himself wanted this title to happen but nobody saw BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle from happening. Including the Persona 5 protagonist can tease fans that “Persona 5 Arena” is possible as he makes an appearance in this title. However, the Persona cast might be filled up with existing Persona 4 Arena characters for easier development. It’s unknown if Kazuhisa Wada has any authority in this project at the moment.
In the series, Coco Adel is a leader of Team CFVY (read as Coffee) and wields a suitcase that turns into a large gatling gun. In her first fight, she is implied to have superhuman strength as she was able to fight large monsters in close quarters. Even though most of her recent fights just show relying on her gatling gun, she’s a great addition to the title if she can still fight with her previous style.
Persona 3 Protagonist
The Persona 3 protagonist is one of the most requested characters to join Persona 4 Arena but didn’t make it since it was a canon story. Excluding him is easy as he sacrificed himself to be the Great Seal that keeps the main Persona 3 antagonist away on the moon. Similar to Shinjiro Aragaki, his appearance in this title won’t be a problem as story canonicity is thrown out the window once it was confirmed to be a “crossover” title.
Arc System Works has yet to confirm the full roster of this upcoming fighting game. Fans will have to wait until the developers talk about this series again before its 2018 release.
