The “Black Ops 3 Zombies Chronicles” DLC was recently discovered by dataminers in the latest Black Ops 3 patch. Eight remastered Zombies maps spanning from World At War up until the second Black Ops. The Zombie Chronicles DLC reveal is heavily rumored to be this coming Thursday.
Zombies Chronicles Datamined
According to MattFlier’s thread on the Call of Duty Zombies subreddit, the Black Ops 3 Zombies Chronicles was found after datamining the current Black Ops 3 patch. This new DLC has a list of 16 maps and has a description that this collection is a “fully HD remaster of the original saga.” Call of Duty Zombies fans will be excited as the “remasters” feature older Zombies maps. Zombies Chronicles will arrive first on the PS4.
Eight Familiar Maps
So far, the eight maps are Moon, Origins, Nacht der Untoten, Kino der Toten, Shangri-La, Shi No Numa, Verruckt, and Ascension. All of these maps are the adventures of the first Zombies protagonists namely Dempsey, Richtofen, Takeo, and Nikolai. Players who haven’t tried out or started late in the Zombies series will definitely appreciate these remastered maps.
Play as the “Older, Past” Selves
The main Zombies protagonists are actually divided into two versions, particularly the Original and their “Origins” versions. The Original versions are older, problematic, and unstable soldiers with extreme personalities. These original versions are the playable ones on the Black Ops 3 Zombies Chronicles remastered maps, unless Activision pulls a twist for these maps.
Meanwhile, the Black Ops 3 players start off with their “Origins” versions which are younger and likeable versions of Dempsey, Richtofen, Takeo, and Nikolai. These characters visit other timelines and dimensions to recover the souls of the “Original” versions to use it for banishing an evil entity for good. Overall, the Zombies story has a complicated main cast but makes sense if you’ve followed the series well. The map remasters will give that chance to newer players.
Treyarch and Infinity Ward’s Zombies
Currently, the Call of Duty Infinite Warfare’s Zombies series features four aspiring movie actors who try escape an evil director’s movies after it supernaturally sucks them in. The premise is helping these characters survive each movie. This is entirely different from the quest to defeat the source of the zombie problem in the Treyarch Zombies’ maps.
Potentially, Activision and Treyarch could be setting up the main Zombies characters for more adventures in the future. The previous map remasters are vital in introducing the main characters due to its complicated story. We’ll have to wait for the Black Ops 3 Zombies Chronicles DLC reveal to start refreshing ourselves about these older Zombies maps.
