HBO has announced a new documentary that will feature one of the most iconic character on Creepypasta for a while. Award-winning director Irene Taylor Brodsky will soon be revealing Beware the Slenderman, a documentary film about two 12-year-old girls blaming the Creepypasta character for attempting to kill?their best friend, according to IndieWire.
Slenderman has been the face of nightmare for a lot of children for a long while, which ultimately was just created out of a 2009 meme, IndieWire reported. Brodsky takes a look at the origin of the iconic character, which supposedly inspired two 12-year-old girls to stab a classmate 19 times and blamed it all on the new boogeyman, according to Jo-Blo.
?Brodsky uses the (fictional) disturbing figure to explore not only the effect that Internet lore has on real-life actions, but also how the digital age is saturating the imagination and actions of children. The director reportedly got exclusive access to the families of both girls charged with the crime, and her documentary will likely stir up fierce debate (and perhaps even a touch more terror),? IndieWire reported.
Here are some details at the new HBO Documentary film from Bloody-Disgusting:
?BEWARE THE SLENDERMAN tells the story of the internet?s elusive Boogeyman and two 12-year-old girls who would kill for him. Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier lured their best friend into the woods, stabbed her 19 times, then set out an odyssey to meet the tall and faceless man known online as Slenderman. Shot over 18 months with heartbreaking access to the families of the would-be murderers, the film plunges deep down the rabbit hole of their crime, a Boogeyman and our society?s most impressionable consumers of media. The entrance to the internet can quickly lead us to its dark basement, within just a matter of clicks. How much do we hold children responsible for what they find there? (SXSW)?
?Beware the Slenderman? is set to premiere at SXSW on March 11 before it launches on HBO.
