Puzzle-platformer adventure game Inside was first released in 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. Some may be familiar with its developer, Playdead, as this was also the same team that brought popular side-scroller Limbo to life.

Similar to Limbo, Inside features a dark environment with barely any use of color. Players take control of an unnamed boy who explores the world of Inside as he faces not only puzzles, but also the overall world of the game.

Inside is dark and eerie — the perfect game if you want a little bit of spookiness in your fun. Download it here for free.

It’s Full of Sparks

In It’s Full of Sparks, players take control of a firecracker as it embarks on a journey to find The Old One, a firecracker whose fuse has never been lit. Along the way, players have the opportunity to navigate 80 hand-crafted levels that all feature a pleasant and colorful interface. The game also boasts of a lively soundtrack and a Speedrun mode that allows players to make their way to the top of the leaderboards.

Besides making the cut into the best iPhone games January 2018 list, Getting Over It has also been making waves amongst some popular YouTube channels. This includes the likes of GameGrumps, Smosh Games, and even The Game Theorists. Getting Over It involves having to literally get over obstacles — such as trees and huge boulders — as players climb up a mountain. However, the character that players take control of is a man in a pot. The only piece of equipment to aid him in his uphill battle is a hammer.

Getting Over It is quite the challenging game, and it calls for a lot of patience when attempting to overcome its obstacles. Download it here for $4.99.

Mind Construct

For the sci-fi junkies, Mind Construct has you covered. Brought to you by another indie team, Studio Rouleau, the game involves having to collect memories in order to unravel what the future holds for planet Earth. The game boasts of breathtaking visuals with quality music to supplement the gaming experience.

Not only do players collect memories of Earth, they also amass memories of their own character in order to learn more about them. Download Mind Construct for free here.

An adventure game that takes cues from more retro titles, Catsby prompts players to progress through each level by making use of different tools and abilities. Upgrading skills, however, is easier said than done. Players must find upgrade boxes that are hidden amongst different levels before they can actually upgrade their skills.

With its retro aesthetic, Catsby is something that caters to both casual and old school gaming enthusiasts. Download it here for free.
