Are you a regular BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) user and own a non-BlackBerry device? Well, this may be your lucky day as the Canadian wireless device company behind BBM is expected to release BBM Version 2.2 really soon.
The BlackBerry Messenger is a proprietary, internet-based messaging application developed by BlackBerry Limited, known before as Research In Motion LTD. The app is initially available for BlackBerry devices only, but in November 2013 the company launched the new app with a very much welcomed Android and iOS compatibility. Since then, BBM has gathered 85 million users worldwide.
According to a post from Inside BlackBerry, the company?s official blog, there will be three major updates that Version 2.2 will bring to BBM:
- Easier Signup
- Easier Friending
- New Emoticons & more
For the first one, BlackBerry has lessened the number of fields that new users should fill upon signing up. It mentioned that users only need to put in their Name, Email, Password, and voil? ?BBM experience? right away. For present BBM users, this update will not impact them in any way.
BlackBerry also developed the method of adding new contacts thru email invitations. Prior to this update, they received feedback that the said process is rather cumbersome and complex. With BBM version 2.2, when a user receives an email invite all he/she needs to do is click it once and that?s it, he/she just gained a new BBM contact. Sending a PIN back will also be unnecessary with this new update.
The team behind the messaging app also provided a bonus for those of us who prefer sending emoticons instead of typing words out. BBM Version 2.2 has an additional 16 emoticons for users to employ; a hacker, maracas, hot lips, game controller, and even a hotdog sandwich are some of the new emoticons included.
BlackBerry Messenger users for Android are the first ones to enjoy Version 2.2 as BlackBerry is poised to release it on the Google Play Store within the next 24 hours. In the next few days, they promise to release the same for iOS-powered devices. Meanwhile, a BBM special release for BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 will be available in the coming weeks as mentioned in the same blog post.
