Google?s developer preview of its next mobile OS ?Android N? is here. The new OS introduces an interesting mix of new features for Android devices but it has been labeled as a work-in progress by Google. The preview is set to release on May 18, after the Google I/O 2016 keynote.

The OS introduces new features like:

  1. Multi-window
  2. Replies integrated in notifications
  3. Bundled Notifications
  4. Enhanced Battery Efficiency
  5. Better Tablet support
  6. Data Saver Feature
  7. Redesign of Notification Menu
  8. Revamped Settings Menu

It?s exciting for Android fans that the new OS is here but is it a clever move to install the OS yet? Google has openly expressed that the preview is a work-in progress and unfit for daily use, it is purely a developer preview for bug-hunting. Google has compiled a list of problems with the Battery, Interface, Dialer, performance and connectivity issues with the new update. So beware of the issues if you do decide to make the jump.

Some issues listed on the website:

  • ???????System and app performance is known to be periodically slow / janky, and device may become occasionally unresponsive. These problems may become more acute with prolonged use.
  • ???????Battery life may be regressed in this release for screen-on and screen-off use cases.
  • ???????Some apps may not function normally on Developer Preview 1. This includes Google?s apps as well as other apps.
  • ???????This early build is not Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) approved. Apps that depend on CTS approved builds (Android Pay for example) won?t work.
  • ???????System and app performance is known to be periodically slow / janky, and device may become occasionally unresponsive. These problems may become more acute with prolonged use.
  • ???????Battery life may be regressed in this release for screen-on and screen-off use cases.
  • ???????Dialer app does not support Direct boot. This will be addressed later in N Developer Preview.
  • ???????Voicemail playback does not work.
  • ???????The PIP integration in the Recents UI is not finalized, and is subject to change.
  • ???????The animation of the PIP window is not smooth. Future releases of the Preview will improve this.
  • ???????Future releases of the Preview will improve upon the visual design and layout alignment of PIP.
