Australia?s Got Talent 2016 has just ended, and as it recorded the lowest rating of the television show in years, it could also be an indication of its farewell for the very last time.
According to Australia Network News, the TV program only ranked twelfth the whole night of Monday despite the fact that it was the grand finals that day. Luckily for the show, it moved six spots up when the announcement of the winner came.
In a more detailed report by Sydney Morning Herald (SMH), the talent show from channel Nine has been performing below expectations with regards to the ratings. However, despite only averaging 700,000 audience per outing, it jumped up to 908,000 viewers when the winner was announced. Because of the sudden boost of people who were tuning in, it immediately ranked sixth in the OzTAM?s ratings.
That said, the lift in the rankings during the proclamation of the winner did not help the TV show to further move up their ratings. Its overall rating ranked 12th with an audience of 761,000, said SMH. It was channel Seven?s My Kitchen Rules which effortlessly bagged the night with 1.418 million viewers.
Here is the list of the most watched TV Shows on Monday as reported by SMH based on OzTAM:
- My Kitchen Rules (Seven) – 1.418 million
- Seven News (Seven) – 1.095 million
- Seven News/Today Night (Seven) – 1.037 million
- Nine News (Nine) 1.037 million

It was the 14-year-old guitarist, Fletcher Pilon, who won this season of AGT and also helped the show to gather additional viewers through his emotional tribute for his late brother. Now, given the fact that the talent show recorded its all-time low rating, the is a possibility that Pilon could be the last grand winner of the show.
Clearly, for this season, Australia?s Got Talent was not able to create so much noise. However, it is also a fact that in television programmes, the ratings are always not definite and it could change anytime. So, it is definitely the TV station?s call whether they would still give the TV program another chance and create a whole new season for it or not.
