Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 is still running on Star World. With a new episode airing Wednesday, the judges are whittling down the number of contenders again, bidding adieu to the underachiever in this week’s task. While we’re still a long way from the show’s finale episode, a new report has already surfaced predicting who this season’s winner would be.
Citing an unknown source, Philippine blog Fashion Pulis reports the country’s remaining contestant, Maureen W. Wroblewitz, would be taking the baton from Cycle 4’s Tawan Kedkong as the new Asia’s Next Top Model. The 18-year-old reportedly outshined other contenders coming from neighboring countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
For the unfamiliar, Maureen started strutting the runway at the early age of 15 after being discovered on Instagram. Her bio details that after finishing her studies in Germany, she took “a leap of faith” and returned to the Philippines to “pursue a bona fide modeling career.” As with most teenagers today, the aspiring Filipina model considers herself ambitious, saying “she’s full of dreams and believes that all of them are possible if you just go for them.”
Did She Really Win The Competition?
A separate report from PhilStar, however, debunked the claims with a different insider declaring the Philippines failed it to make it on top once more. Even with Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s appearance as a guest judge, none of the three Filipina contestants allegedly brought home the bacon this season.
We can recall the Philippines has long been a strong contender in the modeling show, but it has yet to officially gun the AsNTM title. The country landed the third spot in the first cycle with Stephanie Retuya while Cycle 2’s Katarina Rodriguez and Jodilly Pendre ended up as runner-ups in the following season. Such is also the case with Monika Sta. Maria who landed behind winner Ayu Gani in Cycle 3.
As the country did not make it to the top three last year, many fans are hopeful that they will again come Cycle 5. Much to their dismay, the Philippines has had a slow start this season. Two of its bets, Anjelica Santillan and Jennica Sanchez, were sent home from the competition in Episode 1 and 3, respectively, leaving Maureen the last Filipina standing.
What We Know So Far
Should rumors of her victory turn out accurate, Filipinos and foreign fans alike would definitely be over the moon. Unfortunately, we cannot verify Fashion Pulis’ claims until the show finishes airing. And as much as we hope it’s true, Maureen hasn’t been doing well in the last episode or that’s what her score indicated. She notably ended up on the bottom two alongside fellow Filipina contestant Jennica who ultimately got the boot.
Current frontrunners include Clara Tan (Indonesia), Dorothy Petzold (Thailand), and Cindy Chen (Taiwan) who topped the first three tasks respectively. Nonetheless, there are a couple of episodes left on the show. We’ll never know when the tables would turn.
