Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 is now down to its last 5 contestants and as we near the end of the race, the competition is expected to a get a lot tougher. Everyone’s eyes are on the prize but just like the past seasons, only one lady can be the winner. While the show has yet to air its last episode, speculations are rife that Asia’s Next Top Model 2017 winner is none other than German-Filipino hopeful Maureen Wroblewitz.
Rumors that she’s bringing home the bacon in Cycle 5 started to surface on April when a Philippine webloid published an article saying she won the competition. There have been contradicting reports but clues have piled up, reaffirming the claims about the 18-year-old being this Cycle’s winner. More recently, an alleged Wikipedia leak revealed she outshined Vietnam’s Minh Tu Nguyen and Malaysia’s Shikin Gomez who will be the runner-ups.
There’s no way to confirm the matter at this point, but the alleged call-out order was somehow accurate. While there were some typographical errors and duplicates, the leak correctly predicted who’s getting the boot next, as well as the themes of the photo shoots that the show has yet to air. If this is anything to go by, Asia’s Next Top Model 2017 winner would be a series’ first.
The Philippines has always been a strong contender but it has yet to win the title. We can recall it bagged the third spot in the first cycle with Stephanie Retuya while Cycle 2’s Katarina Rodriguez and Jodilly Pendre ended up as runner-ups in the subsequent season. Such is also the case with Monika Sta. Maria who ranked behind Cycle 3 winner Ayu Gani.
This cycle, the country didn’t start strong, having two of its three bets– Anjelica Santillan and Jennica Sanchez– eliminated in the first few episodes. Some fans were doubtful that the Philippines could finally win this time around since its remaining contestant isn’t as experienced as the rivals.
More than just a pretty face
The youngest of the group, Maureen, 18, has only been modeling for roughly three years. That’s not much compared to other contestants who have been strutting the runway for a longer time. This is why she’s been receiving harsh criticisms from her fellow contestants. More recently, she faced boorish comments from Indonesia’s Clara Tan and Vietnam’s Minh Tu Nguyen who said she was not on their level and she “only has a pretty face but no skills.”
But the German-Filipina fired back at them by winning the latest challenge. Her victory serves as her second and makes her one with the most wins alongside Cindy. Maureen won her first challenge in Episode 5 (Maybelline It Girls).
This would be great news for Filipinos. But as much as we want her to win, this is just a mere speculation. We can only confirm who the Asia’s Next Top Model 2017 winner is once the show concludes. Thus, we recommend taking the claims with a grain of salt. In the meantime, fans can catch Maureen and the girls on their new challenge tonight at 9 p.m. on Star World.
