The crafting survival game with dinosaurs, Ark Survival Evolved, has long been promised to hit the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles this coming December. However, the recent update states that the console version development was put to a halt as the developers have to include the Survival of the Fittest expansion on the consoles. Here?s what we know so far about the game?s delay on consoles.
According to the official Ark Survival Evolved blog, the Ark standalone expansion, Survival of the Fittest, was originally scheduled to be released in July. However, it will now be included in the main game. Every addition that will be added to the main game will also be on the Survival of the Fittest mode, which seems to have become an eSport itself. The post said that the developers will put the game?s console development on hold as they need to consider the long-term changes in the game.
It?s possible that Ark?s developers are considering developing the game similar to Blizzard Entertainment?s Overwatch. Since Ark?s Survival of the Fittest mode is considered an eSport, every small change will be crucial for every player, and the game?s platforms may require a unique approach to balance its systems correctly. The developers probably want their console release as bug-proof and balanced as possible on its first few weeks.
Other indie games on the console like DayZ and 7 Days to Die did not have the best start. Currently, DayZ?s console release is yet to have a specific date despite its long development time. Meanwhile, 7 Days to Die experienced major issues which hampered its gameplay during its first few weeks. It?s possible that this may happen to Ark Survival Evolved?s console release if the developers focus too much on just getting the game out on consoles.
Previously, the PS4 version of the game was slated to be released this December, according to the official Sony site. On the other hand, the Xbox One version and the PC version may sport similar gameplay but different feel on the controls. It?s possible that the developers will disregard the previously announced release window for the game until they finish their work on the Survival of the Fittest mode on the console versions of Ark Survival Evolved.
