The upcoming year is expected to a big year for Apple with the possible unveiling of an OLED iPhone 8. The latest reports suggest even a bigger surprise as the Japanese site Macotakara claims that Apple is planning yet another iPhone model. Apple will launch a 5-inch iPhone model next year, according to the report.
5-inch iPhone 7S
The report, cited by a Taiwanese supplier, claimed that the 5-inch iPhone with specifications identical to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be released. The new iPhone is dubbed iPhone 7S, which is an updated version of the iPhone 7. The device will reportedly feature a dual-camera setup similar to the Plus model. However, the cameras will be vertically aligned rather than horizontally like in the current iPhone 7 Plus.
The 5-inch iPhone model will be technically the medium model in extension of the iPhone 2017 lineup, according to MacRumors. There are multiple reports that have stated that there will be three new iPhone models in 2017. Besides, there are two updated iPhone 7 models, a premium model with curved OLED display and a glass casing is expected.
The latest report corroborated an Nikkei report that stated back in October a new 5-inch iPhone would arrive in 2017. The report had said all three iPhones will have new glass-backed designs. This, however, is in contrast with the late rumors of only the premium model supporting a glass sandwich design.
iPhone 8 to Support 5.5-inch display?
Apple is probably adding the 5-inch model with plans to differentiate all the models with display size variations. There will be two iPhone 7S and 7S Plus models that are rumored to be 4.7 and 5.0 inch sizes. The third variation will reportedly be a 5.5-inch, or the so-called premium iPhone 8 and feature the OLED display panel.
Reports in the past have also indicated a 5.8-inch iPhone. It is possible Apple may ditch the 4.7-inch model for 5.0 inch iPhone. The three iPhone models would then come in 5.0, 5.5 and 5.8 inch sizes.
Of course, all of these are mere speculations as nothing is officially confirmed as of yet. There are still a lot of uncertainty surrounding what Apple has in store for 2017.
