iPad Pro 2 rumored for June launch

At the end of March, Apple was expected to release the much anticipated iPad Pro 2. However, in a sudden turn of events, the Cupertino company released a revised version of the standard iPad tablet instead.

Now, there are talks among the market watchers that Apple could launch the said professional tablet sometime in June. According to 9to5Mac, iPad Pro case manufacturer Urban Armor Gear is already preparing a release of the latest cases for the iPad Pro 2. In the said report, the case maker has made three versions of the same case: one for the 12.9- and 9.7-inch iPad Pro 2 and another one for the rumored 10.5-inch model.

iPad Pro 2 supposed release date

According to the same report from 9to5Mac, the said iPad Pro cases are set to be released sometime in June. This led many to believe that the tablet might get launched during the same month.

This supposed release date for the cases coincides with Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California. At the said event, the company is expected to unveil a number of things including the major iOS upgrade, iOS 10.3, as well as iOS 11. Apart from new mobile operating systems, Apple is also rumored to introduce other products like the rumoured Siri Speaker that will compete with the Amazon Echo.

iPad Pro 2 specs

Right now, reports for the iPad Pro reboot have been mixed. Initially, rumors suggested that Apple is planning on releasing a 10.9-inch version of the iPad Pro 2. Later on, the rumor mill suddenly took a turn and settled on a slightly smaller sized tablet.

According to reports, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro 2 will have the same form factor as the 9.7-inch model. This will be achieved by giving the tablet a narrower bezel on both sides of the display.

Apart from the display, there is also the question of the processor. Based on Apple’s design rhythm, one should expect an Apple A10X to be used on the iPad Pro. Normally, this is what Apple does on a regular basis for much of its tablets; use an improved version of the previous SoC used on the current flagship iPhone. However, now that the iPhone 8 is also in line to be launched later this year, some are questioning the choice of processor on the iPad Pro 2.

Although it has not been discussed at length on many occasions, the iPad Pro 2 could also sport the rumored Apple A11 chip. On the other hand, if Apple really wants the iPhone 8 to be unique in every way, then it might as well stick with the A10X.

Release date and price

Users should not expect any major changes on the pricing for the iPad Pro 2, especially the 12.9-inch version. On the flip side, rumor has it that the 9.7-inch model will get a considerable price reduction as it will be targeted for entry-level users. That said, the 10.5-inch will now pick up the slack and be priced somewhere between the original 9.7-inch model and the 12.9-inch version.

As for the release date, it could be anybody’s guess. However, a recent third-party product leak suggests that the launch might happen next month. This supposed unveiling is said to coincide with Apple’s event for June. However, right now, nothing is written in stone. Apple could still turn around and say that it would not be releasing the iPad Pro 2 just yet. Perhaps this will happen sometime in September or October when the company unveils the iPhone 7s, 7s Plus and the iPhone 8. For more updates on the iPad Pro 2, be sure to check us out at TheBitbag.
