Is the latest iPad Mini worth the wait and expense?
Well, iPad and Apple fans need not wait any longer as Apple has released the latest generation of the iPad Mini ? the iPad Mini2 that comes with the Retina display. But is it worth the cost ?
Personally, I don’t opt for the latest models unless they do have notable improvements from the previous generation. When my ten year old wanted to use his Christmas money to get an iPad Mini, we opted to get the older generation without the retina display (read about it in : ?The Bitbag in 2014, Technology & Gaming, & My Son?s iPad Mini? at : https://www.thebitbag.com/2014/01/07/bitbag-2014-technology-gaming-sons-ipad-mini/ ).
With Apple churning out new models faster than ever, it is best to take a good look at what this latest iPad Mini model offers.
To start off, the iPad Mini 2 with Retina Display (I’ll call it Mini2RD from now on) boasts of an A7 Processor (64 bit) with its retina display feature, offering an awesome combination in viewing experience (think HD pictures and video).
Looks wise, this model is still available in the original silver hue but it now also comes in what Apple calls ?Space Gray? which gadget pundits call the ?new black?.
Aside from the new hue, very little though has changed with the iPad Mini.
And since newer models usually become lighter and thinner, it might be a surprise for some to know that the Mini2RD is .2 mm thicker and 20 grams heavier than the previous model (Mini2RD is 7.55 mm and 340 g versus the 7.3 mm and 320 g of the previous one).
This very slight increase in size and weight however is understandable considering the major developments in its display size and the clarity of the images.

The Mini2RD features a panel size of 1.536 x 2.048 versus the older versions 768 x 1.024 display. It also has a maximum luminosity of 396 cd/m2 and a 792:1 contrast ratio. This gives the images of the Mini2RD more brilliance and definition.
Apple also reveals that the new Mini has a ?crystal-clear pixel density? with 326ppi and a 6,500K color temperature that gives pictures a more authentic ?feel?. Photographs of people have more realistic skin tones and are much clearer than that shown in the previous model.
Apple’s website probably describes the Mini2RD’s advantages best in saying that ? …Beautiful 7.9-inch Retina display ? the difference has never been clearer. iPad mini with Retina display is amazing to hold. And behold. Every photo is incredibly detailed and vibrant, and every line of text is remarkably crisp and clear. With higher resolution than an HDTV, it?s stunning on a whole new scale.?
Well said. And for US$ 399.00 Dollars, it better be.
