The Cupertino-based tech titan has just rolled out a two-step verification process for all Apple ID authentications to 48 new countries, bringing the total number from 11 to a substantial 59.
This new Apple ID security feature attaches an extra layer of protection to Apple IDs or iCloud accounts by obliging users to provide another set of information during the login process to confirm their identity. The process will either use SMS or the iOS? Find My iPhone service to authenticate login attempts, along with the existing Apple password. This feature was first tested on selected iCloud IDs early last year and it expanded to a few more countries during late 2013.
Upon accessing a web application on iCloud.com, such as Contacts, Mail, Notes, or Calendar, an SMS with a four-digit code will be received by the device associated with the same Apple ID. The code should then be used together with the password to gain access into iCloud.com. From that we can deduce that Apple users cannot access their iCloud accounts without having access to another Apple device beforehand.
