In today’s technology trend, it is not uncommon to see a product get phased out as the demand for it dwindles. This is the story of the iPad Mini. Rumor has it that Apple will eventually discontinue the said tablet sooner, rather than later.
According to BGR, a source close to Apple claims that the company is considering the discontinuation of the iPad mini due to declining sales. Furthermore, the company is also said to favour newer products the will replace the tablet in the long run.
The report also mentioned that it is possible that Apple will replace the iPad Mini with a redesigned 9.7-inch iPad Pro. The said iPad Pro model is rumoured to be launched this summer. The purported iPad Pro will have the same design feature of the 10.5-inch iPad Pro wherein the form factor is kept really small.
It has been reported on many occasions that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro will be the same size as the original 9.7-inch tablet. Now, the new claims suggest that the smallest of the iPad Pro tablets will have an even smaller build.
It is quite understandable as to why Apple would think to discontinue the iPad mini. In recent months, the company has seen record lows on sales for the said tablet. In a corporate perspective, it is more practical to end the life cycle of a product that incurs more losses in the end.
It is unsure whether Apple will use the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference to announce the iPad Mini replacement. However, according to reports by Ming-Chi Kuo, there is a 70 percent chance that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro will make it in the said event.
Along with the iPad Pro, Apple is also expiate to unveil its version of a standalone virtual assistant similar to the Amazon Echo. The same report from Kuo claims that there is a 50 percent chance Apple will launch the Siri Speaker during this year’s WWDC event.
