Android 7.0 Nougat is the next version of the Android OS that many tech junkies have been excited about. Initially called as Android N, it was later revealed by Google that they have decided to use the codename Nougat for the upcoming Android version. While many Android users are waiting excitedly for the official release, a recent leak may have just hinted that the launch may already happen as early as August.

Android 7.0 Nougat is currently in beta testing as developer previews for the OS has become available to many developers. Regular Android users though are left to wait for the official launch of the OS, the date of which has not been revealed by Google. Well, it seems that the release date for the Android 7.0 Nougat could be as early as August as a recent testing version of the OS was accidentally leaked to a developer.

According to Android Central, a Nexus 6P user shared on Reddit that he received by accident a testing version of Android 7.0 Nougat. Brian Moyano shared that he received a 49MB over the air update when he was trying to go back to Android Marshmallow from the Android Nougat developer preview. Instead of reverting back to Android 6.0.1 though the OTA update pushed him to an Android 7.0, build NRD90M.

While at first glance the Android build may not appear to be anything special, the ?R? actually tells a lot more than meets the eye. The ?R? in the build number actually means that it is on the ?release? branch and not the typical ?preview? branch which uses the letter ?P? in the build number.

It means that the version which Brian Moyano have is almost ready for the official release. He also shared that the ?Android Beta Program? widget is no longer in the quick settings area and that his smartphone now displays the August 5 security patch level.

While we can only speculate at this point, an August release for Android 7.0 Nougat certainly just became more like a real possibility with the recent leak. Still, Android fans would just have to wait for the official announcement from Google as to when exactly the Android 7.0 Nougat will become available.
