Android 7.0 Nougat

OnePlus has just unveiled the OnePlus 3T a few days ago. Now, the company has announced that it will be releasing its version of the Android 7.0 Nougat for the phone as well.

The OnePlus 3T does not really have much to offer in comparison with its predecessor, the OnePlus 3. The only major difference between the two is the fact that the new OnePlus 3T sports the newer Snapdragon 821. Both phones still run on the older Android Marshmallow OS.

Because of the untimely release of the OnePlus 3T, the OnePlus 3 will now become an obsolete device. In fact, the company is phasing out the phone from the US and Europe by the end of this year. However, as an obligation, OnePlus will still release the Android update for the phone.

Under the Android licensing agreement, OnePlus is obligated to provide updates for its phones for at least two years. That is why, even though the OnePlus 3 is now effectively obsolete, users can still expect an update for it.

The truth of the matter is, OnePlus is releasing the Nougat update for both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T in December. Prior to this, the beta version of the firmware will be released to the OnePlus 3 by the end of this month. However, it is still not known whether this firmware beta will extend to the OnePlus 3T.

As for the OnePlus Two and OnePlus X, to date, both phones are still running on the current OxygenOS firmware. Rumor has it that OnePlus will also release the Android 7.0 Nougat on both devices by the end of the year. It may not be at the same time as the OnePlus 3 and 3T, but users can still expect sometime in December.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the OnePlus One. The phone is already two years old and according to the Android agreement, OnePlus is not obligated to provide an update anymore. However, it was reported earlier that the company will still carry out an update akin to the Android Nougat. The OnePlus One cannot directly support the Nougat OS because of the processor limitation imposed by Google on the OS.
