One Plus has announced the update of its mobile devices OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is likely to start by March 2016.

After announcement made by Samsung and Motorola to start rolling out Android Marshmallow upgrades, the latest to join is the OnePlus line-up according to AndroidPolice. The Co-founder of OnePlus devices Carl Pei has announced in a forum that the Marshmallow update for OnePlus devices will commence in first quarter of 2016. The OnePlus devices supporting Cynaogen OS will be updating to Marshmallow in first quarter of the coming year according to him. However the OnePlus One devices that support community build OxygenOS will have to wait.

The OnePlus 2 will also be updated to Marshmallow in first quarter of next year which will include the new standard Marshmallow API to support fingerprint scanner. The company has however decided against creating API for current fingerprint implementation in OxygenOS since they are switching over to the standard Android M implementation soon. OnePlus X will also be updated but the time frame for this hasn?t been decided.

The Android Marshmallow was first unveiled by Google in May 2015 under the codename Android M. It was officially released in October 2015 with launch of LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P. The Android M will primarily focus on improving the overall user experience of Lollipop. According to Firstpost Tech,?new features of Android M include the Doze Mode, App Standby, Do not Disturb, Now on Tap, Direct Share, Expendable Storage and many others. Doze helps conserve battery of the Android device when in rested state. Android Pay will replace Google Wallet app in the latest upgrade to make in-app payments. Android M will also standardize fingerprint sensor support and support USB Type-C for charging. Another major change is the App Permissions that allows users to decide which permissions they want to allow or revoke, based on when those particular functions are used.

OnePlus is a China based smart phone manufacturer owned by OPPO Electronics and has become hugely successful owing to its unique use of custom ROMs and affordable pricing.
