Android 4.4 KitKat Killer Features: Why should you update now?

By on

Unless you?re one of those people who use a dumbphone, you probably know that Android 4.4 KitKat has been released on some devices and that it offers a number of improvements for your device. A great, responsive device tells you that you have the update waiting for you; simply go to Settings> About> Software Updates.

If you don?t have any updates or aren?t going to get any Android firmware fixes for KitKat, you might want to consider getting a new device that already has 4.4. Why? Check out all these cool new features:

  • Full-screen view

Android phones can safely laud the fact that they have bigger screens than any iPhone to date. While this may change in the near future, reading articles, news and ebooks is certainly more pleasant on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or a Kindle Fire than on an iPhone. Now, you can get an even better experience with a full screen for reading.

  • Faster response time and loading

Not a lot of users know that Android 4.4 KitKat is designed to benefit the low-spec to mid-range devices that sometimes struggle with small RAM. With this update, users can feel the change in how fast apps, services and other phone functions happen. This also means that better memory management lets lower-end devices perform better multitasking and premium phones to run even faster.

  • Smarter Caller ID

Whenever an unknown number calls you, Android quickly searches for possible phone number matches through location services and Google listings. This way, you can know if a reservation you?ve been waiting for is finalized or if a friend of a friend has gotten hold of your number.

  • Better voice commands and deep search

In their effort to become more intuitive (or more intrusive), Google Now has become something of a better personal assistant than iOS? Siri. Just make sure that Google Now is activated and say, ?Ok Google,? followed by a general command to open an app, call someone or send a message. When you search for something, simply say, ?Ok Google, search?? followed by your term and the phone looks it up. If you have an app that?s linked to the search term such as a book or a location in a map, the service can bring that up as well.

These are just 4 of the best features of Android KitKat 4.4. Keep in mind that most devices either come with the update or are waiting for their turn to update. If you work with an old device, you may never get the update at all.
