12-year old America?s Got Talent favorite Grace VanderWaal could give Birdy a run for her money. They both have raw, throaty and haunting voices, plus they both write their own songs. Coincidentally, Birdy won the music competition, Open Mic UK in 2008, at the age of 12. This could be a sign for VanderWaal, who?s showing big potential to win this year?s America?s Got Talent competition.
VanderWaal stole the show with her performance last night as she sang her original composition, Beautiful Thing, a song she wrote for her sister.
?We?re a tight group?she?s my best friend,? she said in a recorded clip before she performed live for the judges? and America?s vote.
All four judges gave her a standing ovation after her performance.
Although Cowell critiqued that her voice sounded croaky at times, and pointed out that she missed a few notes, he more than made up for it by saying that the show is about finding potential. Heidi Klum calls her one in a million, and Mel B just wanted to cuddle her and her distinctive voice. Meanwhile, Howie Mandel predicted that VanderWaal will become ?the biggest star ever to come from America?s Got Talent.?
On her initial audition to AGT, she also performed an original song titled I Don?t Know My Name. The judges were ecstatic with her performance and she received the golden buzzer from Howie Mandel, which propelled her straight to the live shows. Simon Cowell predicted her to be the next Taylor Swift.
What?s refreshing about Grace VanderWaal is that she is pure talent. She didn?t come to the show with an emotional backstory of growing up poor, or orphaned or whatnot. She draws not from personal experience when she writes her songs because, hello, she?s only 12. Rather she writes from what she watches on Netflix, or what she reads from books.
Results for last night?s performance will air Wednesday evening. The competition?s live finale will air on September 14.
