Activision Looking to License More Products for the Skylanders Franchise

By on

Activision is really building the Skylanders brand as they continue to license out rights for the overwhelmingly successful franchise. The rights now extend to products like magazines, cereals, and coloring books. The announcement was made today during the Licensing Expo 2014.

Activision already works with numerous licensing partners for the Skylanders franchise. Currently, there are more than 175 different licensing partners for the $2 billion toys to life game series. The series is also set to receive a fourth installment with Skylanders Trap Team that we first wrote about here. One of the more high profile licensing partners for Skylanders is the food giant General Mills. General Mills is already producing Skylander shaped fruit snacks and they will begin an eight week program starting in February of next year that will put Skystones, the mini game from Skylanders Giants (released in 2012), on the backs of cereal boxes in North America. A brand campaign for General Mills? Trix Yogurt Cups and Go-Gurt will also feature Skylanders starting this coming September.

Publisher of Top Gear magazine, Immediate Media, will be launching an official Skylanders magazine in the UK this coming fall. There are also plans to bring the magazine to additional regions in 2015. Another publishing company, IDW Publishing announced earlier this year that they will release the first official Skylanders comic book this summer and it will be a prequel to Trap Team. The first issue will be 16 pages long and is set to debut during Comic-Con International 2014. Crayola?s partnership with Activision continues to grow as they are looking to release Skylanders branded coloring books next spring under the Xtreme Coloring and Activity Pad product lines.

Ashley Maidy, vice president of global licensing and partnerships for Activision Publishing mentioned in a press release today that: ?We are delighted that many of the world’s leading brands are collaborating with us on meaningful programs that let our fans engage with the Skylanders brand in ways that didn’t exist three years ago?. These numerous Skylanders licensing arrangements have helped make the company one of the top licensors in the world.

The latest installment, SKylanders Trap Team, is set for release on October 5 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
