With the iPhone 8 rumors taking the center stage, it might have escaped the?attention of many that 2017 also marks the 10th anniversary of Apple TV. Apple will celebrate the occasion with an update to its little black box, according to reports.
The fourth-gen Apple TV, the first to allow users to install apps, was unveiled alongside iPhone 6S in September 2015. The fifth-gen (5G) Apple TV was initially expected to arrive in 2016, but Apple updates its TV less often than other devices. Apple TV 2017 evidently will change that as the Cupertino tech giant seeks to focus more on it as it is a neglected device.
The company launched a new version of the Apple TV’s operating system, tvOS 10, which got considerable stage time at WWDC 2016 event. Tim Cook, too, made non-specific but intriguing comments about the future of the Apple TV at the company?s Q3 2016 earnings conference call, reports MacWorld. He said that Apple still has big plans for its TV division and plans to build ?something bigger? with the product and surrounding ecosystem.
Apple TV 5th-gen features
The 5th Gen Apple TV will get an interface change, according to MobilenApps.com. It will enhance the TV owner’s user experience for those who are signed up to multiple content providers. Apple?s next big plans is not a hardware upgrade but a software-based program guide.
The first hints of this strategy came with the announcements of the tvOS 10. The tvOS 10 includes a new feature known as the “single sign in”. ?This enables one?login details to work for all TV services. The tvOS will automatically sign into all services for them: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and so on.
The Apple TV 2017 may also feature 4K Ultra HD resolution support along with HDR compatibility, reports 4K.com. The pressure is mounting on Apple to bring major overhaul to its HD resolution when all of its competitors are better equipped. Although 4K UHD content is still low in volume, users are still shifting to UHD TVs.
Apple TV Streaming Service
The Apple 2017 will even see the launch of the Apple TV streaming service, which will be exclusive to company?s set box. Apple is slowly, but surely, entering the movie and TV industry, seeking to offer Netflix-like original content. The company is currently in production of its own Planet of the Apps TV shows. Apple even has a?notable presence at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Apple TV streaming service is indeed true, according to notable internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom. He tweeted that Apple will purchase a Hollywood Studio in 2017. He claimed to get the intel from Apple insider but did not reveal further details.
