One of the most hyped Xbox One exclusives has sadly been cancelled, and those excited for the game were left in dismay. Recently, news broke out that Microsoft Xbox and Platinum Games’ Scalebound has been cancelled. With Scalebound cancelled, players have lost a potentially amazing Xbox One exclusive that would’ve been up to par with the PlayStation 4’s exclusive games.
Things didn’t end well with developer Platinum Games and publisher Microsoft according to some reports. A statement released to Eurogamer revealed that Microsoft has parted way with Platinum Games, so the chances of the game ever making a comeback is pretty slim.
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences,” says Microsoft.
With Scalebound cancelled on the Xbox One, those still looking forward to seeing the game on other platforms are hopeful. Microsoft has the rights to the promising title, so we can’t expect Platinum Games to bring it to other platforms.
Why Was It Cancelled?
According to Eurogamer’s sources the relationship between the two companies has “soured” after Gamescom 2016. Due to the heavy workload, senior developers were reportedly forced to take a month off. When the senior developers returned, development was already behind schedule that it eventually led to the game’s cancellation.
Scalebound was initially expected to launch in 2016, but it’s release date was then moved to sometime in 2017. Now, there’s no chance in seeing the game soon.
Scalebound features quite an exciting fast-paced gameplay that’s more than perfect for action game fans. Aside from battling enemies on-foot, players can also take the battle on bigger proportions on top of a dragon. Those who’ve seen gameplay footages of the game are definitely wishing for it to release eventually.
