Samsung is pulling all stops to ensure the success of its forthcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8, after the Note 7 debacle. The company which is on a neck-to-neck competition with Apple plans to offer the best of features even though the previous Galaxy S7 remains high in demand. Rumors are rife on what the Galaxy S8 will entail, but lately, there are confirmations for some of the alleged features.
Galaxy S8 Release Date
Samsung traditionally announces its latest S-series flagship on the eve of the Mobile World Congress. MWC 2017 will take place from February 27 to March 2. IBTimes.com cited smartphone leaker @ricciolo in suggesting that the South Korean giant will unveil the Galaxy S8 on February 26, 2017. The official launch is to follow only weeks later.
However, several reports suggest that the smartphone maker could break from tradition in 2017. Samsung would proceed with caution and put its device through further testing to avoid another debacle.
Selfie Camera with Autofocus
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 will reportedly feature an auto-focusing front camera. It will be a first for the industry. The Galaxy S8’s front camera reportedly is said to sport what’s called an “AF actuator.” It would detect how close or far away a subject is and adjust the focus accordingly. That means sharper selfies, regardless of distance or people in the shot.
The Galaxy S8 has already been rumored to come with Viv, an artificial intelligence-based voice assistant. A latest NDTV Gadgets report, however, suggests that the virtual assistant will reportedly have a male and female voice called Bixby and Kestra, respectively. Reportedly, a trademark protection was filed to ensure that no one will be able to use particular names.
In an EU patent application description, the nature of “Bixby” and “Kestra” is clearly described as “Computer software for enabling hands-free use of a mobile phone through voice recognition” and “Computer software used to process voice commands.” Both these smart assistants are expected to debut with the Galaxy S8 launch in February next year.
Samsung is tipped to spec up the Galaxy S8 with 6GB of RAM and 256 GB internal storage. With Apple offering 256GB storage variants in its iPhone 7 /7 Plus phones, it seems only natural for Samsung to follow. It should be noted that the current Galaxy 7 is offered with 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB variants. However, there is no word on whether the device would still feature a microSD slot. In terms of processor, the Galaxy S8 is said to come equipped with an Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon 835 SoC.
The upcoming Galaxy S8 is also tipped to support pressure sensitive Edge to Edge display and optical fingerprint scanner. Also, it is expected come in two screen variants – 5.7-inch 2K display and 6.2-inch 4K display. The device is even expected to sport a dual camera module on the rear side. Of course, all of these are mere rumors, as Samsung has not confirmed the Galaxy S8 so far. So stay tuned to TheBitBag for latest rumors and updates on upcoming mobile devices.
