JFW DH beta testing soon and JFW DH homebrew seal

by TheLostDeathKnight - on Aug 2nd 2011 - No Comments

JFW-DH, we have heard a lot of talk about it but not much else so there has been speculation about it.  it will be in beta testers hands soon enough. .  The “return of online”, openpsTore here you will be able to find and download special homebrew for your JFW DH ps3, it appears this homebrew will have some form of DRM to keep it exclusive to JFW DH.  Anyways you will have to wait until October, if you don’t qualify to be a beta tester that is.  If the beta gets leaked, they claim to be able brick the leaker and anyone who is not a tester using it. This “anti leak” measure will hopefully  not be in the final release. Also do not trust any leaked beta’s you find in the wild, unless less you are interested in a brick.

Hello friends of the Community DHorg, we know the impatience of many to JFW-DH.Teneis expected to know that the work we are doing is very tiring and among all those who compose the JFW-DH Team want to open the period beta testers

The beta test shall undertake not to publish the beta, and have a mechanism that anti leaks, this means that not only would find the informer, but you use it the users activate the safety mechanism to make them shiny bricks (Forewarned is a traitor)

The beta testers inform the organizer of the bugs to be repaired.
The testing period will be from 2 weeks to address everything that contains the JFW-DH and so do not leave nothing out.

The estimated date for the publication of the JFW-DH is October 1, 2011 (after two weeks testing the above)

We want to inform you of the seal of support, from now all the apps, games that are published on the Internet, content for the JFW-DH duty to use this label for you to know that the apps will already modeadas for use in custom, and are 100% compatible.

If instalais an app that does not have the seal, you will have nothing of this and not be placed in its corresponding category.

Therefore I recommend that users that the JFW-DH Instaleis turn your OpenPStore to lower pkgs ready or download from the pc using a reliable seal compatibility.

So far the JFW-DH will come out in Spanish and in French.

His icon standardized to keep the aesthetics of the JFW-dh

Disable Cinavia task for PS3MFW creator

by TheLostDeathKnight - on Jul 31st 2011 - No Comments

Tical has released a .tcl file which when used with PS3MFW creator will allow you to create your own MFW with Cinavia disabled.  Now this does not disable AVCHD or BD Cinavia but as soon as someone patches bdp_plugin sprx to remove cinavia we will finally have a chance at some freedom from cinavia in all it’s forms on the ps3.  Great work tical . Hope to see more from you.

Quote from tical

I have traced the Cinavia DRM checks to 4 separate sprx files and after a long time trying to patch these files I have found that 3 of those files are present in the DEBUG (DEX) firmware don’t have the Cinavia DRM checks enabled. Files are videoplayer_util sprx, videoplayer_plugin sprx and videoeditor_plugin sprx.

I have successfully copied these 3 sprx files from DEBUG (DEX) FW 341 over to my retail PS3 unit running OFW 341 using dev_blind and Cinavia seems to be now disabled. I’ve confirmed this by playing back a number of Cinavia affected video files.

This means that Cinavia is now disabled for all DLNA playback and copying, but Cinavia checks on AVCHD and BD playback are still present with Message Code 3 that mutes the audio as the sprx file with the Cinavia check bdp_plugin sprx is not present in DEX firmware because BD playback is disabled in DEBUG. If someone is able to patch Cinavia out of bdp_plugin sprx this will be solved too.

I have created a new task for PS3MFW so this can be easily made part of any new MFW’s as needed. Any FW version that has had the DEX firmware leaked should be able to be used to create a CFW of the same version. eg DEX 3.41 -> MFW 341 or DEX 355 -> MFW 355 etc etc. Don’t use sprx files from different FW versions! See git hacks for change_cinavia_files task source.

Big thanks to the KaKaRoTo and REBUG team for their community contributions as this would have never been possible without the knowledge they’ve shared with us.

PLEASE NOTE I DO NOT OFFER ANY GUARANTEE WHEN MESSING WITH YOU PS3 SO DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR PS3 IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR PS3

[Released] Showtime v3.1.22 (unofficial build) + Revision3 + Channel9

by TheLostDeathKnight - on Jul 30th 2011 - No Comments

While Andreas Oman is away the devs will play…with showtime.  Facanferff has released an update to showtime which includes two very interesting plugins,  Revision 3 and Channel 9 more about them in the quote below:

Quote of Facanferff’s post below:

The Showtime has been updated with new fixes since the latest unofficial build. This version 3.1.22 brings add fixes to Showtime, making it more stable. I should alert that this build is unofficial, so it may be unstable, it was tested by myself (facanferff) and it works very well.

In addition to that, I added two new amazing plugins that are not available at the moment in the official GIT, they are: Revision3 (author: NP) and Channel9 (author: facanferff). These two plugins were testes by myself, I should alert the HD feature on Revision3 plugin needs some work but for Channel9 it works very well (only gives some “CPU too slow …” alerts).

If you find problems with any of those plugins you may issue them here: https://github.com/facanferff/showtime

Do you have suggestions about Channel9′s plugin? If so, please contact me (facanferff), I’m working in it at this moment.

3.6 keys could soon be dumped – but not for at least 3 weeks

by DCgh0st - on Jul 25th 2011 - 4 Comments

PNM Project member No_One is off on his holidays for 3 weeks. Now that isn’t the sort of news we usually bother posting (even when the scenes quieter than a church mouse) but it looks like he’s been busy before he does his packing.

Using his PNM board (an open-hardware and open-source board allows NOR chips from the PS3 to be dumped and possibly allow dual booting PS3s) he is a step closer to obtaining the current holy grail of the PS3, the long elusive 3.6+ keys.

It will be sometime before all information is dumped and even longer before 3.6+ CFW see’s the light of day, but it’s a lot closer than it was just a couple of weeks ago.

Keep an eye on PS3SAGA for more news as we get it.

Hi mates,

I’m going to be on vacations for 3 weeks.
I just wanted to tell you that PNM project will be stopped during this period.

But, i’ve some great news for you.
I successfully dumped a 3.60 NOR flash using one of the socket ! ;-)
The second socket has been validated too.
We are not far from our main goal : “jailbreak again the PS3″ !

Here are some snapshots :
- host console with a new feature (NOR FLASH details…),
- PNM with a NOR Flash on Socket #1,
- an extract of the 3.60 NOR dump as a proof ;-)

Cheers

Cobra 3.0 3.55 firmware pack released

by TheLostDeathKnight - on Jul 24th 2011 - No Comments

Team Cobra has finally announced the update to their USB which allows support for 3.55 and more.  You will need their MFW to use Cobra features on 3.55. they have also discontinued support for 3.41.

Team Cobra’s Announcement about the update:

The Cobra Team is proud to present the Cobra 3.0 firmware pack, available from downloads section. In this release we enabled the Cobra USB device on 3.55 via use of our own cfw. Enjoy the release and look forward to many new features to come in future releases. Please be sure to read the updated user manual for detailed instructions on upgrading and usage!

Cobra USB Changelog:

- Added compatibility with 3.55. Support for firmware 3.41 is discontinued, since now all updates will be for 3.55.
In 3.55, Cobra keeps all the features of previous versions, adds the ones listed below and also removes some of the annoyances of the jailbreak exploit.
Please, follow the steps in the manual, you must install first Cobra 3.55 cfw.
- Added a new discless mode for PS3 backups in jailbreak format. This mode will be activated automatically when you load a backup and there is no disc inserted.
In this mode, games are loaded from disc icon, not app_home, although app_home hack is still supported.
This mode has a higher compatibility than the app_home hack, and smaller than discless PS3 isos.
- Added support for PS2 backups in iso format to the remaining backwards compatible models (CECHA and CECHB).
- PS2 isos can now be played discless too.
- Fixed compatibility issue with GT5. If you still experience problems, please delete installed game data from XMB and try again.

Source via Cobra USB

**You can find Cobra Manager, Cobra USB firmware update, and their MFW in the download section on their site

Update from Andrea1Liquid: By reading the user manual we can tell that how we expected the 3.55 pack to work was correct. You have to update Cobra to the latest firmware, update your PS3 to Cobra’s 3.55, then switch it off (no full power off required). Insert your Cobra USB Dongle in PC mode and power on the PS3. Basically, the dongle will work as an authenticator the firmware will check in order to enable the custom features of Cobra’s 3.55. Check the user manual for the detailed instructions ;)

by TheLostDeathKnight - on Jul 24th 2011 - 2 Comments

So folks Drizzt has released the first update to Gaia that we have seen in a long time.  His manager now supports Unicode.  Let’s hope to see more work from him on this great manager.

Quote from PS3ISO

This is an upate to Gaia Manager 2.07 which supports Unicode. (character fonts the original 2.07 version does not) This is straight from drizzt but currently is not the official 2.07 build in circulation.

This will now display the PARAM.SFO information exactly how they are supposed to look. You can now see Japanese fonts, TM, Copyright/Registered symbols etc

PMW NATION Homebrew Engine

by Andrea1Liquid - on Jul 23rd 2011 - 1 Comment

SnakePlissken, chief of PMW NATION, wrote an interesting post on Homebrew Cafè which is about their own multi platform engine being ported for the PS3. According to the post their engine will have a pretty good set of features and will power an homebrew FPS game in order to demonstrate what’s it capable of. Here’s the full quote:

“In A World where high quality entertainment is expressed…”

My Name is Snake Plissken. I am Chief Commander of a group known as PMW NATION. Im currently directing our groups development branch into bringing to the PS3 one great First person gaming experience by means of homebrew on Playstation Custom Firmware.
we hope to release onto the world a whole new concept in homebrew development on the PS3 by developing an “homebrew engine” that future developers can use to make homebrew with to be used on the PS3.

With the engine one could make your own First person shooter homebrew. It has been proven that other forms of homebrew can be made for and used with the engine as well. Not only that but This would offer a interface for developing homebrew outside of PSL1GHT for all types of CFWs (as we will port the engine to work with multiple types of CFW’s )
Developers would need a way to install a .pkg onto there PS3s. They would then make homebrew in form of “recourse data” with the Gaming engine’s tool chain. that is then coupled and distributed with the engine.
A user can download the engine.pkg and insert it on a USB stick along side there recourse data” followed by installing it on there PS3,
the engine would pick up on the resource data, in turn presenting the homebrew content…..

Our first release will be that of our own game using this engine. Upon that release we will release the engine for others to develop future forms of homebrew as well as hopefully more great First Person Shooter Homebrew.

Our game and its engine will have great features: such as…

:~~A version of the engine as well as its tool chain will run well under all modern versions of Windows, from Windows 95 to the new Windows Vista. If you have Linux, it works with that too. But compiling the data to work will be horrible and time consuming
:~~ Free-Looking free-view ( up-down, left-right ) pseudo-3D rendered environment
:~~ a since of basic objects that a player can interact with move, push, pull, ect.
:~~ ACS based event scripting
:~~ in game hub’s
;~~ Colored sector lighting.
;~~ Custom monsters, weapons, and items.
;~~High resolution textures.

;~~ High resolution
;~~ Many, many extensions to ACS
;~~ music formats: Ogg Vorbis, MOD, XM, IT, S3M, MIDI, and MP3,MUS.
;~~ More sound formats: FLAC MP3 and WAVE can be used for sound effects.
;~~ texture formats: PNG and JPEG are both useable for artwork.
;~~ Translucency (regular and additive).
;~~ Full-featured joystick/gamepad support under Windows. With other device support in development.
;~~ player network games using UDP/IP to server support, including team-based game play.
;~~ light effects, including dynamic lights, bright maps, and glowing flats
;~~ As of now: md2 and md3 model support.
;~~ True color support
;~~fog, deep water.
:~~ film focus effects

;~~ Jumping.
;~~ crouching
;~~ Crosshairs.
The works.

——————————————————————————————-
As stated the engine will be developed to incorporate resources data made present to the engine after its installation onto the ps3. Application tools in a windows environment would be used to develop HOMBREW in form of resource data.
Releasing PMW NATION the Video Game at first would show off the possibilities of the games engine so perhaps others could take interest
———————————————————————————————–
We will soon release a project webpage on the matter and I will surly filter that out to those who are interested.
With that We personally hope to contribute a lot to the homebrew café’ as we will use this as our basic means of discussing ‘certain’ forms of our game and its engine’s development to the PS3.
Help getting this underway can be used on this project by those interested and who are familiar with operating PSL1GHT ,those who have knowledge in c languages, and/or those who are familiar with software compilation with GCC, should attempt to message me personally at my email: PMWNATIONHOMEVENTS@AOL.COM.
“Hell.. Just email me for any reason, questions concerns ect. Hell you can feel free to ask me a question right now W/e.”
Our engine will be made open to anyone willing to use it in hope that great homebrew will ensue bringing us ever that much closer to a greater tomorrow where we can fully embrace the ideas that are “ the soul concept of HOMEBREW”
More information soon,

That sounds pretty interesting, doesn’t it?

#ifdef YOU_N00B
Once again, why should you, n00bie reading this article, need this piece of work? See, games are based off engines that handle physics, rendering, character behaviors, etc…The engines are the cores of the games, so, no engine = no games. Having an already coded engine drops most of the work required by an homebrew developer. This is great news because it could bring new
homebrew games in the future.

by TheLostDeathKnight - on Jul 22nd 2011 - 1 Comment

THIS IS A W.I.P

So it has come to our attention that there is a ps3 debugger/emulator under construction,  Right now it is still in it’s infancy, and it will be a long time before it is ready. It currently is only a assembler and the start of ELF compiler.  It will be years before this will work as an emulator and a while before this is useful for homebrew testing.  Although the assembler feature will be of great help to developers.  Right now this programs is useful to find bugs and maybe an exploit!!!

Changelog::

ProgSkeet is here!

by Andrea1Liquid - on Jul 22nd 2011 - 3 Comments

Alright people the Progskeet site is now functional.  So for those who want one can get one. personally i will wait for a new cfw of 3.56 or higher, but this device may help to that end. Also this can possiblly help those with waninkoko bricks and those who would like to return to 3.55 or lower so they can enjoy all the great homebrew.  This device was not built specifically for the ps3, it was built for many things, PS3s just happen to be in the target audience.

Quote from ProgSkeet.com:

  • Whether it is NAND, NOR or any other kind of non-volatile memory – just solder, plug in and operate!
  • Blazing fast read/write speed!
Beside software-side updates, you can also expect hardware updates powered by customer requests!
  • With a broad range of applications, such as EEPROM programming (among others: Altera, Lattice FPGA/CPLD), Bad flash recovery, more commonly known as “Unbricking” (Modems, video cards, cell phones, music players) and plain serial programming (manufacture of your own device).
  • Supported devices include, but are not limited to: K9F1G08, S29GL128, K8Q2815, HY27US08.

Here’s further information on the device itself:

ProgSkeet is your one and only solution to your flashing needs. Whether it is NAND, NOR or any other kind of non-volatile memory – just solder, plug in and operate!
Beside software-side updates, you can also expect hardware updates powered by customer requests!
Industrial programmers often range in the EUR 1000+ range with limited customer support. ProgSkeet can compete with these programmers all the while maintaining low cost!
And always remember – for accuracy and speed, choose ProgSkeet!

uf6667, who created the software used by ProgSkeet, wrote his own here, so I’ll quote him (I would have liked it in a less unfortunate situation):

now, what I can tell you for sure (since I have the prototype right here in front of me) is that there is 0 similarity [between ProgSkeet and Infectus]. there isn’t even a microcontroller on this board.
the only thing it does have is a cheap interface for jtag programming, because not everybody can afford a flashpro 3 and there is no other solution (for the time being).

moreover, I *wrote* the software to it – I know exactly how it works and don’t see any similarity between this and amoxiflash (reverse-engineered version of infectus programmer)

to top it all off – infectus does not have the possibility to program nor flash (afaik)

I’ll also owe an apology to him because, I’ll admit it, the first version of this article didn’t get it right. I quoted and believed what DemonHades said about ProgSkeet. I can now certainly say that it was shit. Don’t trust him. I learnt my lesson. I also owe an apology to dospiedras1973.
ProgSkeet RRP is EUR 45.00 – 55.00
I’ll finish this article with an off topic: always remember that we are only talking about a mod chip for a console. It’s just a console. Things should never degenerate. Never. Be respectful ;)

[W.i.P] Paintown port – Bringing MUGEN to ps3

by TheLostDeathKnight - on Jul 22nd 2011 - No Comments

How many MUGEN fans we got out there, well now is your chance to try a test .pkg of Paintown which is under development for the ps3.  Scristopher and Lunuxx have made the test package available over at PS3HaX for those who would like to try it.  Remember this is still a w.i.p, so not everything will work properly.

hey its been a while since i posted last, here are some new videos from xmb (sorry about split videos my camera wouldnt let me do both in the same video)

if anyone would like to test this pkg or can help as always please stop by irc #paintown on freenode OR efnet

‪paintown ps3 xmb pkg test (part1)‬‏ – YouTube

‪paintown ps3 xmb pkg test (part 2) mugen mode‬‏ – YouTube

issues as of now: music, mugen mode is slow with anyone besides kfm, character compatibility with some mugen characters. these issues are fixable

If you are a character maker or know psl1ght, sdl etc and are interested please stop by. anyone can test the game that wants too as well just stop by the irc and ask

you can also compile paintown yourself (from svn) if you have psl1ght, for now we can provide you with a pkg if needed until everything is stable and fixed. once everything is fixed we will put a pkg file here!

Paintown mode works just great and is extremely fun, a quote here

“If you are looking for a side-scrolling, action packed game like you used to play or if you are looking for an extensible engine to write your own game, look no further. Paintown supports user created content through a mod system and user defined functionality through scripting.

Paintown also supports an implementation of M.U.G.E.N. Our goal is to be 100% compatible with M.U.G.E.N 2002.04.14 beta as well as supporting any new updates in the 1.0 version.

Paintown is completely open-source and we would love any contributions in the form of code, art, or donations. Give Paintown a try!”

here is the pkg file – paintown mode works perfect – some issues are still present in mugen mode and music is out for right now feel free to play and have fun, you will need to install the pkg and then copy the data folder from to the install directory/USRDIR (/dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR/)

also for optimal play change your video output before playing to 720 or 480 on the PS3

1080 is laggy for now

change back to whatever you were using when done playing

network play coming soon!
