Mad with the recent unfortunate news that graf_chokolo could go to a prison, a group called themselves “Unknown” has warn Sony and already has a major plan in place to attack the-just-recovered PlayStation Network where they are not responsible for the previous attack.

Respected PS3 homebrew developer, graf_chokolo has told everyone at grafchokolo.com that he is probably going to jail after all as he won’t able to pay the legal costs involved in his battle with SONY. Before this, he has been sued and raided by SONY for publishing the security architecture of the PS3 as well as his work on bringing back the OtherOS.

We had a post, a while back, worrying of graf_chokolo’s condition after what he has going through in the middle of court hassling. Now, we can put those sweats away after seeing our respected developer leaving a simple message at grafchokolo.com last week, saying: “Hi guys, still alive Thanks for your support.”

Even with a short comment post, the whole PS3 scene couldn’t be more happier knowing that graf_chokolo is in a good shape. The man has been unfairly treated with bogus law on his work to bring back Sony’s promised “forever-supported-Linux-feature” to the masses and in a much better version, the OtherOS++, which now has been released by Gitbrew, supporting all types of PS3 models.

Well, we hope that he can take it like what he wanted and we all pray for your justice, graf_chokolo.

I’m not sure if this is an old news but it seems a good one indeed as i think there are a lot of people out there who has been looking for a method to support Linux on their previously OtherOS++ incompatible PS3 models. If you look at the tool files here you can see that it just has been recently modified as later as yesterday with the INSTALL_OTHEROS_ON_HDD file. So, it should still be new. Here are the snippet taken from gitbrew:

ALL PS3 MODELS ARE SUPPORTED !!!

1. Install my latest CFW
2. When installation is finished, go to recovery menu and choose “Restore PS3 System”
3. Now your GameOS should use only the half of your HDD
(Currently working on a better approach)
4. Run setup_vflash_for_otheros_slim.pkg
(NAND owners should use setup_vflash_for_otheros_fat.pkg)
5. Reboot
6. Store dtbImage.ps3.bin on USB drive, plug it in and run install_otheros.pkg
(NAND owners should use dtbImage.ps3.bin.minimal, rename it to dtbImage.ps3.bin).
Try different USB ports if you don’t get any beeps.
7. Run boot_otheros.pkg
8. Run reboot.pkg
9. You should be in petitboot now.
Exit from CUI to shell or switch to another virtual console.
10. Run script create_hdd_region.sh
11. Reboot and boot petitboot again
12. You should see now new HDD device on petitboot, /dev/ps3dd.
That’s your OtherOS HDD region.
Don’t touch any other HDD regions if you don’t know what you are doing. Use only ps3dd
device for your Linux installation. Use parted to partition it and create GPT partition
table on ps3dd. GPT is supported by both, Linux and FreeBSD.

Be warned, if you damage your GameOS HDD region, GameOS will reformat HDD and
remove your Linux HDD region in the process. You have to do the above steps again.
Don’t mess with GameOS HDD region and GameOS won’t mess with your OtherOS HDD region.

For users who installed OtherOS on VFLASH region 7 previously

You have to restore your VFLASH before doing the above steps.
Be warned, this step is NOT for NAND owners.

1. Install my latest petitboot
2. Boot petitboot
3. Run script restore_vflash.sh
4. Reboot. GameOS should reformat your HDD again.

OtherOS++ first announced on February by our legendary HV master, graf_chokolo where he released his PS3 Linux source code work openly among other developers and enthusiasts with the help of a hosted git. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to release a complete version of OtherOS++ because of the constant legal trouble he is having with SONY. Despite the court battle, he still bravely continued his work underground to help the Linux scene grows until he reached the point where he won’t be able to continue due to the heavy pressure SONY has gave him.

Gitbrew took from what has been left by graf_chokolo and continue his Linux legacy where they has now released a working version of OtherOS++, a much better version of Sony’s previous OtherOS PS3 Linux. Oh, and a spat on their face too for hoping to bringing the scene down. Always remember graf_chokolo for the work of OtherOS++.

We never heard from the man for over 2 weeks now and i have been asked a lot of questions to how he has been doing recently. As we all have known, graf_chokolo has been served unjustified court papers on his PS3 development works, that includes his (now released) OtherOS++ project and as far as what i have been told, he’s still in that ongoing court case. But, don’t worry, his close contact has said to me that “he is fine”. Even though it is a short one, it’s certainly a very good news to the PS3 scene as a whole and we really hope that he can make a fine battle with the crazy rusty crabs.

So it seems once again, Sony is flexing its muscles. Some of the pages at grafchokolo.com has been removed. Sony was able to get the judge to order the take down of certain pages that contains some of graf’s work or else risk being fined for 250,000 Euros or worse, and possible to face six months in jail. Do not worry because some people have a backup all of these files. It is not a raid of Graf’s house like last time, but this time more of a threat.

Geohot’s court case is over, it’s time to move on people–to Graf_chokolo’s case. On his official blog, Graf_chokolo posted links to court documents (in German) pertaining to the first and second TRO–the latter, which he received yesterday.

The 86443.pdf was translated from German to English, so check it out after the break. There are also a few excerpts from the court papers that shows what Sony is after.
