reActPSN

Here’s a small update to reActPSN. Version 2.20 update the TRIANGLE fixed mode–something to do with BIN-sprx-edat-EDAT-self files and fixing DLC with the TRIANGLE mode. I know the source says there’s a lot of changes to this release but that are incorrect, it’s from v2.10. Changelog: v2.20 TRIANGLE fixed mode...

Geohot quits Facebook — returns to hacking the PS3 and iPhone? (video)

by Rith - on Jan 25th 2012 - 6 Comments

Famous jailbreaker geohot (aka George Hotz) has quit Facebook! Only 7-months into his employment with Facebook, he has returned to the jailbreaking scene. If you recall, prior to his employment there, he was grilled by Sony for jailbreaking the PS3 console. So that begs the question, will geohot return to jailbreaking the PS3?

by Rith - on Jan 19th 2012 - 5 Comments

Coming from Dev-Team-SPT / ARCH is an unofficial version of the Rebug custom firmware for the PS3. This unofficial build includes a number of patches (e.g. Remote Play, Cinavia, No_Check), new coldboot, a new category called “the homebrew channel”, etc.

Update: Arch stopped by our forums to let us know about a new build. It appears to be stability fix for PS1 games running off CDs. Download link below.

Dev-Team-SPT / ARCH (roughly translated):

Put your dream of jailbreaking firmware v4.00 on hold — KaKaRoTo explains. Take our poll!

by Rith - on Jan 18th 2012 - 6 Comments

It looks like KaKaRoTo and team are having a tough time getting homebrew apps to run on firmware v3.60+. So far, packages can be installed on firmware vv3.6x-4.00 via 4.00 “Homebrew ENabler” (HEN) but without the private key to calculate the second signature for “npdrm self”, the team is stuck and will need to look for “a completely new exploit that would allow the files we install to actual run on the PS3″. According to KaKaRoTo, the team wasted value time—more than two months—all thanks to Mathieulh.

Here’s a “quick” status update on the 4.00 HEN (Homebrew ENabler) for PS3.

Following my clarifications from almost 2 months ago here, there has been a lot of progress. We have not been slacking off, we’re a group of about 10 developers working together for the last 2 months, for sometimes 15 hours everyday in order to bring back homebrew support to the latest version of the PS3.

[FAKE] 3.anything – new downgrade method

by DCgh0st - on Jul 14th 2011 - 5 Comments

This is being reported as a fake, as I said I haven’t tried it so am unable to confirm either way. It is probably best for users to ignore for now and wait for Project PROGSKEET to become retail or go the infectus route.

Thanks to user Guest_1651 I bring you (pre 17th Feb 2009) PS3 owners good news. Clever so and so’s at thetechgame.com have found a way to downgrade PS3′s (made before the 17th February 2009) to OFW 3.21, meaning of course where you go from there is entirely up to you (REBUG anybody?)

The method is pretty long winded and will NOT, currently work on PS3′s made AFTER February 17th 2009 (did I mention that already?), also the only “registration codes” (the code that corresponds to the firmware you want to end up on) made public at the moment are for phats but slim ones are available by PM’ing the author of the original forum post here.

There are some issues to take in mind first though:

You need 2 wireless controllers and cables for each

You need 2 4gb (NO SMALLER) usb sticks

You need a CD or old game (they don’t say how old but I’m guessing the older the better, or just stick to your bon jovi best of album)

You probably want someone with you, to keep pressing O, and call an ambulance when your heart gives out from the stress of possibly killing your lovely PS3.

I haven’t tried it myself as I’m still on 3.51 but from other members of thetechgame.com it seems to work.

I’m not going to post the tutorial here as I figure if you can’t even find the link to it above you will no doubt screw your PS3 up :p

If any of you guys try it please let us know how it goes, and follow the instructions to the T.

3.66 Debug Firmware Leaked (Unconfirmed)

by Dukio - on Jul 8th 2011 - 1 Comment

ConsoleDev broke the news before with his sensational leaked releases of the debug firmwares and now he has contributed again to the scene with his another, latest version of a debug PS3 firmware.

While it’s still yet to be seen whether the latest debug firmware would somehow help with the 3.66 CFW development, it should give us some hope on making it happened at some level. Here’s what DemonHades has to say along with ConsoleDev release on his site:

Our friend and fellow Consoledev give us a little something back to the community DHorg, on this occasion published the 366, PS3 debug firmware.

Not like others who keep them and make them public: evil:

For users of the street as I do not get much use, but for devs and other researchers that is more space to learn about new protections OFWs 366:)

Sony have ways of making you pay.

by DCgh0st - on Jul 7th 2011 - 3 Comments

It has been talked about for some time but it finally looks like Sony are fighting back against the evil second hand games market.

An image of the new PS3 Resistance3 bundle has been posted online and it shows a nasty little logo for “PSN PASS” and the words “Network features only available in countries that have PlayStation Store.”

IGN contacted Sony for clarification and were told the following:

“We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities,” the spokesperson said. “This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.

“This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.”

If you buy a used copy of the game (and the PSN PASS code has been used also) you’ll have to log into the PSN store and give those hard working guys and girls at Sony (notice my sarcasm) some more cash or it’s single player only for you.

I presume this will also mean Sony can start making some $s out of the pirate game scene, although it is yet to be seen how much of this will actually go to the creators of the game and how much to Sony themselves.

Personally if Resistance3 is anything like Resistance2 then good luck to them, it was a terrible game, but that might just be my COD spoilt game sense.

PSN revamp. Keep it under your hat though

by DCgh0st - on Jul 6th 2011 - No Comments

Do you like windows high contrast theme? Well it will soon be your lucky day! Sony is in the midst of testing a new look and revamped PSN interface.

It appears Sony have listened to it’s users (first time for everything I guess) and decided to fix the text heavyness of the current layout. Currently in the “market-testing” stage (you know, focus groups etc) the new de-cluttered look has been quoted as “an aesthetic layout with logically marked sections and rolodex lists”. Replacing the frankly boring old blue feel with ” ultra bright colours on a black background.”, I could be picturing it wrongly but that does sound a little like “high contrast” to me.

The look is thought to borrow more than a little from IMDB with tabs of extra information on films and games on the right that allow the user to click through to more information on things like genre, publisher, developer, etc for games and actor, director, etc, etc for movies.

All I can really say is, as long as you keep users details secure and don’t act like power hunger nutters I don’t really care how PSN looks, maybe just me though.

PS4SAGA anyone?

by DCgh0st - on Jul 6th 2011 - 2 Comments

It’s that time of the decade again, time for the trickle of news on next gen machines to start floating around.

I’ve recently been re-reading some classic old video game magazines from the 80′s and 90′s, many regaling readers with “Hot news!” regarding the new 16bit machines and amazing CD based 32bit systems! It seems things don’t change that much as news of the WII U, xbox720 (ok so it prob’ won’t be called that but you know what I mean) and our own $ony’s PS4 start to leak out.

News from several tech sites note how Foxconn (they make all sorts including the hole what you stick your ethernet cable in)  and Pegatron Technology, assemblers of PS3 will undertake assembly of PS4 as well. Sources indicated that a planned shippment for the PS4 in 2012 is “at least 20 million units”, just in time for the 3.6+ keys to be found :p.

The new system is thought to utilise a Kinect type system for game play (well can you imagine a new console not?) and could even make use of VR (oh god, it really is like an 1990′s issue of EDGE!). Personally I hope not, VR is a great idea, just not for the home, unless you like looking like the Lawnmower man?

I’m sure more news will make it’s way onto the net very soon, keep those eyes pealed…

Have you updated your PS3 firmware?

by Dukio - on Jul 6th 2011 - 9 Comments

With the lure of “Welcome Back” program as well as the release of Uncharted 3 BETA on PSN, it’s not wrong to admit if you have updated your previous jailbroken PS3 console into an official firmware despite what you can achieve with a CFW. Now, do you?
