What you think of the whole Cobra USB being reverse engineered? PS3Hax hacker named zadow28, aka Zadow has reverse-engineered the Cobra dongle files so that the above-average PS3 user who has an USB development board laying around or any similar device can use the cracked files and use it like an ordinary Cobra USB device. Remember...

Cobra 3.0 3.55 firmware pack released

by TheLostDeathKnight - on Jul 24th 2011 - No Comments

Team Cobra has finally announced the update to their USB which allows support for 3.55 and more.  You will need their MFW to use Cobra features on 3.55. they have also discontinued support for 3.41.

Team Cobra’s Announcement about the update:

The Cobra Team is proud to present the Cobra 3.0 firmware pack, available from downloads section. In this release we enabled the Cobra USB device on 3.55 via use of our own cfw. Enjoy the release and look forward to many new features to come in future releases. Please be sure to read the updated user manual for detailed instructions on upgrading and usage!

Cobra USB Changelog:

- Added compatibility with 3.55. Support for firmware 3.41 is discontinued, since now all updates will be for 3.55.
In 3.55, Cobra keeps all the features of previous versions, adds the ones listed below and also removes some of the annoyances of the jailbreak exploit.
Please, follow the steps in the manual, you must install first Cobra 3.55 cfw.
- Added a new discless mode for PS3 backups in jailbreak format. This mode will be activated automatically when you load a backup and there is no disc inserted.
In this mode, games are loaded from disc icon, not app_home, although app_home hack is still supported.
This mode has a higher compatibility than the app_home hack, and smaller than discless PS3 isos.
- Added support for PS2 backups in iso format to the remaining backwards compatible models (CECHA and CECHB).
- PS2 isos can now be played discless too.
- Fixed compatibility issue with GT5. If you still experience problems, please delete installed game data from XMB and try again.

**You can find Cobra Manager, Cobra USB firmware update, and their MFW in the download section on their site

Update from Andrea1Liquid: By reading the user manual we can tell that how we expected the 3.55 pack to work was correct. You have to update Cobra to the latest firmware, update your PS3 to Cobra’s 3.55, then switch it off (no full power off required). Insert your Cobra USB Dongle in PC mode and power on the PS3. Basically, the dongle will work as an authenticator the firmware will check in order to enable the custom features of Cobra’s 3.55. Check the user manual for the detailed instructions ;)

JaicraB dumps both Cobra USB 1.2 and 2.0 respectively

by Dukio - on Jun 25th 2011 - 2 Comments

Seems that our respected scener has totally pwned Cobra USB as he has now released two dumps of the old and new version of the dongle device. It’s still yet to be seen what .bin files can do for you but we can expect that to be rolled out for the USB microcontroller boards such as Teensy.

Let’s read what JaicraB has to say along with the release (Translated):

That is all. Enjoy.

Cobra USB 2.0 Update Comes With PS2 Support!

by Dukio - on Jun 19th 2011 - 1 Comment

If you are the owner of CECHC and CECHE backwards compatible PS3 consoles, you may now enjoy full PS2 backups support with the latest Cobra USB v2.0 firmware, just like what they had promised last month.

It also brings up other new features as well as important bug fixes. Check out the latest Cobra USB’s announcement below, taken from their official website.

We have released Cobra Firmware v2.0 and Cobra USB Manager v2.0, which are both available from the downloads page. Changes in this release include:

  • Added the ability to play PS2 ISO backups from CECHC and CECHE backwards compatible consoles. Support for the remaining backwards compatible models, CECHA and CECHB, will come in a future update
  • PS3, PSX, DVD and BluRay ISO’s can now be played without a real disc inserted in the PS3. Support for discless PS2 backups will come in a future update
  • Added an option for those users without a PS2 backwards compatible PS3 (including Slims) to test PS2 original games and ISO backups using the PS2 software only emulator which is by default included with all PS3′s. Please note however that as the software only emulator is slow and very buggy, this feature is disabled by default and is only intended as a gimmick
  • Cobra USB manager can now make PS3 ISO’s from backups in the standard “Jailbreak” directory format, using the copy function
  • Cobra USB manager is now less strict with cue/bin filenames
  • Bugfix: Cobra USB Manager was unable to get the PSX CD-ROM/CD-R title, and displayed “PSX-CDROM” instead
  • Bugfix: Under rare circumstances, Cobra USB Manager could dump invalid PS3 discs

The user manuals have been updated to reflect the changes in the v2.0 release. In addition, we have released a PC-side genps3iso tool which can convert backups dumped in the standard “Jailbreak” directory format to the ISO format supported by Cobra. As mentioned above, this is also supported directly within Cobra USB Manager however the process is faster and in our opinion easier to perform on the PC.

PS1 Emulator ISO Support On PS3 Iris Manager Soon?

by Dukio - on Jun 10th 2011 - 8 Comments

D_Skywalk has made a statement few days ago that the PS1 support is working, whether or not it’s on Iris Manager is yet to be seen because i couldn’t get a grasp on what they have been discussing about at the Iris Manager thread in Elotrolado forum.

From the look of it though, the creator of Iris Manager is indeed working on getting the Cobra USB patches working with his backup manager. Here are the translated text of his post that mentioning on PS1 support:

PS1 support is already working, tomorrow I get to mount images and so I have time to test what you asked

I’m going to see E3

Speaking of Cobra USB, they haven’t posted any new news on the full utilization of their features that includes the PS1 support on 3.55 firmware, which is quite frustrating because i haven’t yet to test their sample dongle that they sent to me due to the fact that I’m on most people’s boat, the 3.55 CFW. It will be a good news too for the scene if they do release their ported version on 3.55 as developers can look up on the code and working on getting the patches for 3.55 CFW.
