A while ago, we reported to you that Sony had issued a new minor firmware update for the PS3, which was an optional download on the list. Few days on, a lot of people has been reporting of several noticeable freeze on certain software video game titles which is quite a bad news for those wanting to try a shot on the update.
To straighten things up, this only appears to be causing on selected numbers of PS3 users, and surely does not seem to be mass problem at the moment. There are also reports that their PS3 console is not suffering any kind of strange freeze after the 3.65 update, but just so to let you guys know, here are the mentioned problems stated by those affected people.
Specific titles that have triggered the problem are Resistance 1 and 2, FIFA 11, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and also a number of Blu-Ray movies. They have been experiencing about slow downs whilst navigating through the PS3 XMB, while some gamers are also suffering of ’5 second freezes’ during play, some of which require a hard reset of the console.
You can see that the whole situation is still ongoing, but if the PS3 firmware update of 3.65 is seriously causing major slow down problems and game freezes then call it as our job to let you guys informed more as it progressed. The funniest thing is that this update, as mentioned on the changelog, should have improved gameplay in some titles LOL
I know this is a little off topic but a little on the “hard reset”, I’m fed up with so called “experts” youtube videos and forum posts saying to unplug the power on a frozen console. This is never a good idea (especially over n over again), all consoles (and most PCs) will power down no matter how hung if you just hold the power button for 5-20seconds (depending on the hardware). It may be a load of bollocks that it’s a bad idea to just unplug but surely it’s better safe than sorry

i have had dead nation freeze up so that even holding the power button does not turn it off and i had no choice but to unplug it. and i havent even downloaded update 3.65 yet.

Updated my system just a few days ago. I too are now experiencing issues such as lag time as well as constant crashing. I tried watching a blu ray movie last evening and it worked for 30 min and then crashed leaving me with an error message. As of today my system will not load properly and shuts down on it’s own. I love Sony and it’s products but I’m clearly at a breaking point with it’s lack luster stability! Sony clearly has the spending power to procure the right talent and I have a hard time understanding why they haven’t done so after their last debacle. Side note: “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and getting the same result.” Think it’s time to inject new blood or I’m crossing over to the dark side of xbox.
For me freeze with LEGO pirates pirate of the caribbean since 3.65 -_-’ and I got a new ps3 (slim)….sorry for my english, i’m french =]
updated to 3.65, now upon trying to do anything – play any game via disk or saved to harddrive or a blueray movie – -3 beeps, red lights flash and shuts OFF! It will turn on, but 3 beeps and off upon trying to launch anything.
yeah for me its the same thing, my ps3 froze up every after 5 minutes of playing on dirt3 or nhl afer a game or a race… that realy pisses me off… and the only way to turn it off its to unplug the power cord -__- damn I hope they’ll solve the problem soon !
Since i update my ps3 i can’t even read a bluray without a black sreen and PS3 says “This Disc is Invalid 80029906″
this is typical firmware from $ony…I have been having issues with the xmb slow and blacksite area 51 game since updating. the streaming movies off the network actually seem much better but this one older game area 51 is buggy. gta iv and tomb raider trilogy seem fine. I have the 60 gig fat. Please quit kicking your customers $ony.
updated my slim to 3.65 and just downloading the free infamous game (via wifi) and it just keeps turning off. Turn it back on and it keeps going for an hr or so. Have not tried games or Blu ray yet.

I have got the freezing problem every time I try to play L.A. Noire. And it’s never in the same part of the game. It always says that the console is overheated (and never is) and then the game shuts down. I tried all the suggestions (removed LA Noire game data, created temporarily new user, reset the console, checked the disc for scratches, other games don’t cause the problem, no overheating ever before the update) Is it a firmware-update that causes the problem? If the answer is yes, when is a new firmware going to be available?? I reallly want to play the game……

My PS3 won’t let me download it at all. Is it because maybe they are not allowing users to download it? The problem is, that my PS3 would go to 97% and fail everytime I try. I can’t go to the home page at all… All it does is go back to the update download, and fail all over again. Why is it doing this? And why can’t I do anything else but the update? Please help D:
Gran turismo 5 freezes in online seasonal events and endurance races
my ps3 has def been freezing. I constantly have to force shut down, even plug it out. only a few games are actually affected, not many, but any ps3 menus, loading, and even basic start up has plenty of freezing and it all moves slow as ever…i thought it was just me, but it has neva happened b4. i will try a quick cleaning. otherwise i hope sony gets this resolved
Since I’ve updated to fw 3.65 my PS3 won’t load any disks (CD, DVD, Blue Ray, PS2 game or PS3 game). This is really upseting. If fw 3.65 was optional there should be a downgrade option too!
I’m not sure if it’s related but, my PS3 Overheated into a Red Blinking Light of Death so I had to send it in the get repaired…but the trouble started when I was transferring a large amount of songs from my iPod to my Hard Drive….I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. But well, I got a fan upgrade, so I’m hoping this won’t be a problem in the future.

I have also been experiencing problems with the updated firmware. Blu_ray works for a while and then freezes in b/w loading screens on certain games (especially super street fighter 4)
hmmm,, strangely my alice madness is working now! i didnt do anything though, i just gave it a try and it worked. but i remember running it while downloading a file,,,and i thinks thats where this firmware has problems with? and gave the freeze?(many people are downloading from stores i think b/c of the ‘welcome back’ thing and free playstation plus subscrition for a month) well,, thats what i suspect,, Sony has to give clear, definit answer on this
Just updated my system to 3.65 from 3.15 so I could play GT5 Lost my linux partition (which was expected) and now my system doesnt even attempt to read ANY game discs and this was working before the update fine.. *&*&*(&& not amused. Any Idea on what I can do system is out of warranty but their update broke it..

After I updated to version 3.6 my ps3 wont read any disks. I have no clue what to do and everyone has mixed thoughts on what it is. but it happened literally right after I updated.
ps3 will not read ps3 discs but will read ps2 and regular dvd’s
So suddenly Alice Madness returns does not play. Put in the disk and screen stays black then says check connection, powersource and so on. Put in Mass Effect 2 works fine. Play around on Playstation store works fine..Popped Alice back in did the same thing as before.. I dont know that I can take much more of SONY and their constant Issues
Just received a new slim PS3 w/Move bundle for my birthday. Updated to 3.65 and can’t load up MvC3. Haven’t even had the chance to try it. Definitely upset. Sports Champions works, however. Can’t download the update it prompts me for at the beginning, though.
Downloaded the update ,and it keeps freezing after i stop a movie. I have to unplug then plug it back in, now it freezes when it boots up, never gets to the PSN, and it won’t allow me to play anything now. NEVER did it do this before. This is BS!!!!
Same shit; updated to 3.65 and little by lil slowed down. Now it’s not even loading the game. Even if it does load it freezes rite away.
Ive never had problems with COD Black Ops but lately after the update ive been having major lag issues and many disconnects (at least 8 yesterday). Also, after a few hours playing online the game will randomly freeze in the middle of a match and I have to do a hard reboot. Anyone else have this problem. originally I thought it was my network card going bad because the dl speed is really low one day then normal the next (speedtest.net). Then I happened upon this post. Let me know..

I have problems, when i try to login to the ps network or, when i try to poweroff the ps3. The Usb Wireless sensor Active2 not works too.
My ps3 has been freezing a lot while playing bfbc2 its not scratched at all after installing the 3.65 update my ps3 hasn’t froze once
my ps3 broke because of ylod after the update 3.65.
Mine wouldn’t boot at all after updating. After diagnostics mode and a lot of experimenting it said the file structure was corrupted. I lost ALL of my game saves etc. Learned my lesson, reinstalled everything (took ages) then backed it all up. Seems to be working ok now.
I really think such a device is erelivent with hackers these days even i should be the first to require this type of information not some cheesy sixteen yearolds so if any one can find this first give me a call its 722-628-7278
I don’t know if this is related to the firmware update but I’ve been having trouble even installing Gran Turismo 5. I recently bought a 500gb Hitachi internal HD to replace my already full 80gb. After spending around 2 hours installing this game, I try it out.. only to find that the loading times are significantly increased. Beforehand I had done the pre-install and hadn’t had much of a problem with the loading times in GT5.. they were always tolerable. But now it takes me anywhere from 15-25 minutes just to load up the ‘My Home’ ‘Arcade Mode’ and ‘Gran Turismo TV’ menu. Even after pre-installing. So now Im wondering if it may have been caused by this update and its just sheer coincidence that this is happening just as I installed a new HD, or maybe I bought a faulty hardrive (which seems to work with every other game I own). Anybody else experience anything like this?
I have been experiencing this problem for months, just psn came back online after the hackers. I play Fifa 11 and when i’m on 1 screen, the music goes, and then when i try and exit that screen, the game freezes, but the ps3 menu still works. In an online game, you can still play, but the commentary goes, then the players name’s go, hen the crowd noises, then the score bar goes, but you can still here the players kicking the ball. Any1 else have this problem?
Since the update Resistence 2 crashes a lot! Made it through to the very last bit by switching the console off each time and then trying again – but now it crashes constantly right at the end of the game when I meet back up with my crew. Come on Sony – sort it!
My PS3 freezes and then resets itself when quitting from NBA 2K11 to the XMB menu. This never happened before but the first time it happened it actually took me to the 3.65 update and I updated the system but the problem continues when I do this playing NBA 2K11. I check to see if this occurs with Madden 11 but it doesn’t.
Everytime I try to play NBA 2k11, it freezes at the screen with the NBA team logos before the Jordan animation. Infamous 2 froze at the pause menu once. This angers me. I expect better out of sony. Even microsoft doesn’t have these problems.

updated with 3.66 still freezing and 5 to 10 sec lag on the xbm, this has only just started whilst playing resistance 1, just deleted all game data from memory, but still really slow.. come on sony another thing you need to sort out, please add me if you like and see you on the battle field lol
I play FIFA 11, when I play a club match it freezes for a few seconds then has to catch up to itself, someone fix this.
PS3 IS STILL FREEZING….. I can log in at first and play for 5 mins before I freeze up on downloaded game (mushroom wars). Sometimes i freeze right in the main menu. This is very frustrating, and Im not sure how to fix
