Next Gen Gaming At An Affordable Price

Well it’s finally here folks. The $199 next gen price point. I have to admit, I hated the idea of the Core system and personally, I still don’t like the Arcade. I have to have a hard disk with my Xbox 360. Microsoft spoiled me last gen and I still haven’t used 1/4th of that hard disk on my Xbox 1. Still though, you have to put this into perspective. You can get an Xbox 360 with a wireless controller and a memory card for $199 and still be able to play every single game in the 360’s library. That’s not bad at all. How will it affect the industry though? Read the rest of this entry »

Warzone #12 – Will The 360 Price Drops Make It Harder For Sony??

This is our 12th episode of the Warzone. Tonight we tackled holiday sales and pondered how the $199 dollar 360 would affect Sony this holiday season.  Tonight is also our first live recorded episode.  Other cool topics on the show tonight include:

  • Gamers uniting to make the industry better
  • The storm of games coming this fall and how it’s going to hurt our pockets
  • We talk about Goodfellajay and DLB and how self centered they are
  • Weapon X hits us with the GTAIV DLC rumormill
  • Fanboy/girl call outs for Juuken, Mikeslemonade and Isaac
  • and much much more…

Drunken Gamer: Chapter 1

From the tip of my bottle to the bottom of my glass, I often times sit and reminisce the good ol’ days of gaming. Not just about how companies marketed poorly back in those days, but the progress of where games have come from and where they’re headed. What is the future of gaming? Would we even call it gaming in the near future? When we’re in our 60s and the grandchildren are playing the PS9, what stories could we tell them of the old days and how informative would we be about it? In this day and age of the “console wars”, you gotta think that perhaps somewhere down the line it just won’t fucking matter about graphics. Read the rest of this entry »

Just When You Thought Kids Were Too Cool For Retro Gaming

One of the greatest things about being a gaming dad is that I get to expose my son to all the cool stuff I’ve acquired over the years. I have a Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, Wii, Xbox, PS2, 360 and PS3. My Saturn library is huge as is my PS1, PS2 and Dreamcast libraries. My son had a graduation party today and I thought I would do what I used to do growing up…throw a video game tournament. NFL 2K5 Comes To The Xbox 360

nfl2k5.jpg

This is by far the best BC update to hit the 360. Like myself, many NFL 2K5 fans have been yearning for a chance to play this game on their 360. For a moment there I thought it was never going to happen. Yesterday I caught wind of the update and was playing NFL 2K5 in high definition on my Xbox 360. Not only has NFL 2K5 received a BC treatment, but many other 2K sports titles have too. Here’s the full list: Read the rest of this entry »

Who’s Actually Fighting In This Console War?

Console wars date as far back as 1989 when the Sega Genesis dropped.  Remember the blast processing ads featuring Sonic?  Sega and Nintendo went at it pretty hard, trumping each other every step of the way.  Sega pretty much held it’s own until Street Fighter II was released on the Super NES.  While it didn’t kill Sega’s success, it did put Nintendo on top as THE system to have.  The forums were nasty.  rec.games.video was a haven for flame wars.  It went from Sega vs. Nintendo to Sega vs. Nintendo vs. Sony and so on and so forth.  The only ones affected by the so called system wars were the gamers.  There were never any losers or winners as far as the game companies were concerned.  They didn’t give a shit about us gamers as long as we were spending our money on their games.  These wars continue to this day and so do the idiotic flamewars in game forums all over the net.  Read the rest of this entry »
