WiiWare: Exciting Classics Reborn

WiiWare

With all of the talk about PSN and XBL, I think some of us forget about the little system that could (or has done). Nintendo’s little white box is chock full of remixed classic of yesteryear from the excepted old school Mario games to the hundreds offered by SEGA, TurboGrafX-16 and NeoGeo there is no doubt that the Wii is truly a modern day retro machine. That being said, it doesn’t mean that ports of old games on the WiiWare platform can’t be enhanced or re-mastered.

Hit up the break for a few games that have been released in such a fashion, let’s see the updated classics.

New Trailer: Prince Of Persia Goes Back To Its Roots

prince-of-persia_original_w600

I remember playing Prince of Persia wayyyyyyy back on my Windows 95 PC, and after playing the last two PoP on the PS2 and Xbox (original) I lost all interest and didn’t even give the name much attention when ever I heard talk about it from my friends. Then we come full circle, with more of a take on from it’s original’s roots. Quickly when I say roots I don’t really mean graphics (2D), but more of the game play on the exploration and climbing and hanging on the ledges. I know the other 3D games did all this but the style and visuals didn’t feel like the classic landscape. Check out the latest trailer after the break.

Lady Gaga Comes To Rock Band Next Week

LadyGaga-01-big

What can I say, other than, It’s about time? My RB friends live and die by the exclusives that make the Rock Band experience different from other band games. I can see everyone with the game downloading this new music pack when it debuts.

The people that I know, who play RB on an almost daily practice, love to download music for the game, regardless of genre. I personally can’t get into the music games nor do I have the space for a ton of plastic instruments. Hit up the break to get prices, release dates and other Rock Band related news.

The Original 2D Classic Mega Man Returns In Mega Man 10 for WiiWare, XBL And PSN

300dpi_(medium)_-_MM10_MIDDLE_Cover_NO_BLEED

Capcom is on a roll, utilizing all major platforms’ online stores. For the retro gamer downloadable classic games are a godsend. I for one am an avid old school collector with purchases of Myst for the SEGA CD, Raiden for the Atari Jaguar and 007 Golden Eye for the N64 just last week.

I have mixed feelings about buying an “only downloadable” retro classic, but can appreciate the fact that now all gamers can relive the old games of a once innocent past in video game history.

I personally own all of the classic game consoles dating back to the 8-Bit era, so no matter how exact a classic game is rereleased on current platforms it still doesn’t feel the same with out playing on the original console and controller. This is just am opinion of a veteran gamer and big time collector, but in the bigger scope of things, I can appreciate the fact that gamers get another shot at playing some of video games greatest games and remembering our gaming heritage.

Zelda Coming in 2010?

Earlier this week, Nintendo fans got some great news from the family friendly gaming company. Three big time titles, including Mario and Metroid, got release dates for Spring 2010. Though this is great news there was one major title missing from the bunch. That title was Zelda.

We all know a Zelda is in development, and will probably get its grand reveal at E3 2010, but when can we expect it to drop. Well according to a interview today with Wired, Cammie Dunaway, of Nintendo, is saying you might be getting it sooner than you think:

Wired.com: You’ve announced major games for the first half of the year. Do you see the game industry moving toward a more year-long release schedule, in general?

Dunaway: One of the things that’s true for Nintendo is that we’re not driven by a calendar for our release dates. When the games are ready to go, when the quality is perfect, that’s when we release. We all benefit if we can keep a pretty steady pace, so the development teams have worked hard to make sure that we’ve got a full lineup this year. If you compare the first half of 2010 with the first half of 2009, it’s night and day. And from some of the things that Mr. Iwata has talked about, and that we will talk about at E3, like Zelda, you know that we’re going to have a good back half of the year, as well.

Wired.com: I think people were really interested to know, are they going to release Mario and Metroid and Zelda all in one year?

Dunaway: And you said we wouldn’t. You bet no, right?

Wired.com: I bet no. Are you going to hold me to that? Do I owe you a steak dinner?

Dunaway: I think you do.

Nintendo Announces Major Title Release Dates

Today belongs to Nintendo, and early Summer belongs to the Wii. Today at Nintendo’s Summit in San Fransisco, the Japanese game company announced the release date to three of their biggest titles coming out this year. Super Mario Galaxy 2, the follow-up to 2007’s smash hit Super Mario Galaxy, is coming May 23rd. Metroid: Other M, a third person Metroid being developed by Team Ninja, is coming June 27th. Sin and Punishment 2, the sequel to the N64 classic, is coming June 7th.

I’m pleasently surprised by the fact that all three of these games are coming out so early in the year, and bunched so tightly together. This may hint at a possible Fall release for the new Zelda? Anyways, hopefully 2010 is the year people actually stop complaining about the Wii. Their hardcore lineup so far this year has been solid, and now the god-like Nintendo 1st party games are coming, and they are coming in bunches. I’d also like to add that if you don’t like the new trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2 then you don’t have a heart.

Sonic 4 Gameplay Leaked

YES! I’ve been wanting a great Sonic game since Sonic Adventures, and this game is looking to be it. I loved 2D Sonic (I preferred him over Mario), so to see this video brings back so much nostalgia. This is only a early build so there are some things to improve, but you can get an idea of what they want to do. If this game plays like old school Sonic and is only $10, then this is a Day 1 buy for me.
