The Next Generation Starts When 3rd Party Devs Start Fully Utilizing The PS3
“Sony says the next generation starts when they say so – bullshit!” – Mark Rein
Yep, Sony made some big claims a few years ago. They told us every game would be 1080p and 120fps. Kutaragi referenced “4d” when speaking about the system. The fact that they said the next generation will start when they say so sent many fanboys on both sides of the fence into a fire. Has Sony delivered on their promises? For the most part yes, but what about the frequent claims that the 360 hardware is holding PS3 development back? Read the rest of this entry »
Next Gen Gaming At An Affordable Price
Well it’s finally here folks. The $199 next gen price point. I have to admit, I hated the idea of the Core system and personally, I still don’t like the Arcade. I have to have a hard disk with my Xbox 360. Microsoft spoiled me last gen and I still haven’t used 1/4th of that hard disk on my Xbox 1. Still though, you have to put this into perspective. You can get an Xbox 360 with a wireless controller and a memory card for $199 and still be able to play every single game in the 360’s library. That’s not bad at all. How will it affect the industry though? Read the rest of this entry »
Dedicated Or Peer, That Is The Question
There’s been some misinformation being spread about the use of dedicated vs peer servers in next gen gaming. The PS3 masses have assumed that all PS3 multiplayer games are dedicated and all Xbox 360 multiplayer games are peer based. They couldn’t be farther from the truth. Read the rest of this entry »
Drunken Gamer: Chapter 1
From the tip of my bottle to the bottom of my glass, I often times sit and reminisce the good ol’ days of gaming. Not just about how companies marketed poorly back in those days, but the progress of where games have come from and where they’re headed. What is the future of gaming? Would we even call it gaming in the near future? When we’re in our 60s and the grandchildren are playing the PS9, what stories could we tell them of the old days and how informative would we be about it? In this day and age of the “console wars”, you gotta think that perhaps somewhere down the line it just won’t fucking matter about graphics. Read the rest of this entry »
Fanboys Are Too Bitter For Too Human
The madness has ensued today on the internet. The reviews are in and the major gaming sites and blogs are giving us the numbers on Too Human. It’s been getting fair ratings and Playstation fanboys are having a field day. It seems that there is a bitter taste left in their mouths from Xbox fanboys bashing Haze to death. The worst part of all of this madness is reading that people are now waiting for bargain bin copies of the game because of the review scores they are seeing. Read the rest of this entry »
Developers See PS3 & 360 As Equals
There’s been a lot of talk about the pros and cons of developing on the 360 and PS3. A lot of developers are saying that PS3 is very difficult to program versus the 360. The PS3 has more space but most big games require installs. The 360 doesn’t require installs, which is cool, but the problem of disk space is coming to light. The real nitty gritty is whether or not the older 360 can still compete with the PS3 and also whether or not we’ll see a gap between PS3 games and 360 games in the near future. How Microsoft Used GTAIV To Save The Xbox 360 From Extinction

GTAIV is upon us. After several years of holding breath, Rockstar’s Magnum opus is spinning on millions of Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles all over the world. It’s another successful multi-platform release. What gamer isn’t happy at this moment? Some gamers might not realize the fact that GTAIV being released on both of the next gen platforms has leveled the play field for both Microsoft and Sony. If you didn’t know the facts about why PS2 dominated the last generation, you should look at GTA3 as the sole reason. Read the rest of this entry »
Only White People Can Be Zombies
This whole Resident Evil 5 racism card thing has gotten way out of hand. With black folks, sometimes your damned if you do and your damned if don’t. The reaction to the Resident Evil 5 trailer is not surprising, but it’s reached levels of epic nonsense. Read the rest of this entry »
The War Against Fanboyism
1. Fanboyism –adjective
The collective outlook and behavior of a group of people concerning a subject (movies, games, hardware, comic book characters, etc.) which when challenged results in an antagonistic, passionate, and unreasoned response.
Rampant Fanboyism can be found on most internet message boards when such hot button subjects are discussed. You know a fanboy when you see one.
Example:
Fanboy 1: “The Playstation 3 is better because…”
Fanboy 2: “My iPod is better than your Zune, how can you carry around a brown MP3 player…”
Fanboy 3: It’s unrealistic because…..___(fill in the blank about how this movie about flying superheroes is unrealistic.___”
g-Ripe: Who is the Real Bully?
How about another g-Ripe? I actually have two.
Rockstar reassured its Xbox 360 customers last week that they would be addressing gameplay issues that have come up in the version they ported over for Microsoft customers. There were some performance issues that did not come up during testing, because it apparently only affects older boxes. People still have old ones that haven’t experienced red ring? D&D Co-Creator Dies At 69

For those of you who once played Dungeons and Dragons (or still do!), we are now in mourning. Gary Gygax, who helped create D&D, which became the framework for many other fantasy based pencil, paper, and dice role-playing games, has died this morning at age 69.
I played D&D with friends for many hours in my lifetime, with my most recent adventures coming to a close a few years back. It could be said without much protest that, without D&D, the role-playing games that we know and love would have been a completely different experience without the easy-to-understand system of rules that Gygax helped set forth way back in 1974. Dust off those multi-sided dice and give them one more roll in honor of Mr. Gygax!

g-Ripe: My Take on Consolidation

I am . . . by no means . . . an expert on these things. So, suffice it to say, this will be a man-on-the-street perspective on the whole deal. So, please feel free to enlighten me if you have better insight. Read the rest of this entry »
Fanboyism In Journalism

I normally don’t have a problem when ‘Professional’ sites do comparisons between consoles, as most are well written, factual, and informative. However, after recently reading Gamepro’s Feature: PS3 vs. Xbox 360 ports: The cold, hard truth, I’m not quite sure what the goal was, other than incite Fanboys by providing anything but the ‘Cold, Hard Truth’. Can Somebody Call the Movie Industry a Wah-mbulance?
Variety’s The Cut Scene reported Tuesday that Dreamworks Animation head honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg blamed the video game industry for poor DVD sales of “Shrek the Third.” He stated, “Competition at retail from other sources such as videogames has had an impact on the overall homevideo market and on the performance of individual titles including ‘Shrek the Third.’” Really? Well, that kind of contradicts the press release that was published on their website. Read the rest of this entry »
