Alpha Protocol Preview

Sam Fisher and Solid Snake. Both known in the gaming community as the best spies in games. These guys have fought to protect their country and also fought to protect what they believe is right. They work in silence, but know how to take out the enemy when necessary. For years, both of them have dominated the stealth/action game type. Well this Summer, Obsidian and Sega hope to add another man to these ranks and that man is Michael Thorton.

Thorton is the main protagonist in Obsidian’s upcoming espionage-action RPG, Alpha Protocol. In the game, “Thorton is a talented young agent cast out by his government, Thorton is the only one with the information needed to stop an impending international catastrophe. To do so means he must cut himself off from the very people he is sworn to protect.” This game is not your typical spy game, but rather a RPG that allows your choices as a undercover agent to really have an impact throughout. The characters you meet, the missions you take, and the story that unfolds is up to the way you play the game.

Fallout: New Vegas Details (PC Gamer)

Fallout: New Vegas

If you are a PC Gamer subscriber you are in luck. In this upcoming month’s issue, you will be treated to a six page layout on Fallout: New Vegas. Here are some of the details that have been leaked online by a post on the Bethesda forums and a post on fansite called Duck and Cover. Expect a lot of new news on Fallout: New Vegas in the coming month.

* There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn’t instant etc. Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.
* The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar’s Legion vs. New Vegas residents.
* You are not a vault dweller but are given a Pip-Boy by someone who is one.
* There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.
* There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new big gun with a backpack, held like a minigun.
* There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS – specifically a move for a golf club called “Fore” which seems to be a groin shot.
* The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.
* There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion
* The Geckos are back.
* There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin.
* Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a 1950s hairstyle who apparently is one of their leaders.
* Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul an NCR Ranger
* The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot
* Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels
* A character generation shot showing a “vigour machine” instead of the skill book
* NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar’s Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called Black Mountain. There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless reuve is mentioned as being in the latter. Area 51 also appears.
* NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger
* Skils have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a coversation about explosives where appropriate.
* There is a Reputation system in adition to Karma.

Very interesting. I’m interested to see what Obsidian does with the franchise. Sounds like they have some good ideas. Hopefully it plays as fun as it sounds.

Dark Void DLC Will Be Available For Xbox 360 & PS3 Next Week

darkvoid

It’s becoming a trend for a game to come out and not even 90 days later we get (not always free) downloadable content for it. Dark Void will be no different. Next week both XBL and PSN will have all new DLC for Dark Void. I haven’t tried the game out just yet. I’m to entangled with Mass Effect 2 right now, so I won’t get much time for Dark Void any time soon. Hit the break for the full details.

New Just Cause 2 Trailer: Freedom

Ok, I gotta admit that this game is looking better and better with each trailer that comes out. At first, I was worried that the game was going to be a blast for a couple hors, and then get old. This trailer along with a couple others though make it seem like a great sandbox to play in. It may actually turn out to be what I wanted Mercs 2 and Far Cry 2 to be like. Check out the trailer, it’s pretty sweet.

Resonance of Fate Japanese Opening Cinematic

Here is the opening cinematic for, Resonance of Fate, the upcoming JRPG being developed by tri-Ace and published by Sega. The game has a demo available, for those interested, on the Japanese PSN/XBL stores. The game was just released in Japan and is coming out in the US on March 9th, 2010 for 360/PS3. I have a slight interest in this game and I’m interested to see if this game is a sleeper on the way, but I’m a JRPG-fan so that may skew my opinion. I dont think it will fare well sales wise though with Final Fantasy XIII coming out on the same day. If you like the cinematic, I included some gameplay trailers after the jump. The gameplay reminds me of a more cinematic Valkyria Chronicles.

    Bioshock 2 Special Edition Unboxing

With Bioshock 2 coming out next Tuesday, 2K is making one last strong marketing push for the highly anticipated sequel to the 2007 smash hit. Above they show off all the items included in the special edition including: a vinyl LP, a CD soundtrack, a artbook, and three lithographs along with some fancy wrapping. According to Amazon, this special edition is going to set gamers back $99.96. Steep price, but I’m sure this special edition with the soft spot with some Bioshock fans. Don’t forget to check out Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tonight because during the shows first commercial break they will be showing a 3 min commercial on Bioshock 2.

Bioshock 2 to have midnight launches and two pre-order exclusive characters

Matt G. posted footage of Bioshock 2’s new multiplayer mode (which can be viewed HERE) and some tidbits (which can be viewed HERE).  Since the game’s launch day is quickly approaching us (February 9th), we shall keep the Bioshock 2 wave rolling.  I was shocked (no pun intended) to find out there will be a midnight release for this game.  I haven’t seen much in the way of advertising for it but it appears that is going to change soon as well.  A launch trailer will be airing on television tonight. More details follow. Read the rest of this entry »

    The Last Guardian

The Japanese website for Team Ico’s upcoming new title, The Last Guardian, is up and running. The site is in Japanese, but it does contain some good multimedia trailers (from E3′09/TGS’09) and screens. The screens are huge, and some are new. It’s worth just checking out if your a fan of the teams previous games and are excited about this title.

PixelJunk Shooter Demo In HK Store

UPDATE: Looks like there will be a JP demo for PJ Shooter. Unfortunately SONY likes to only release demos based on region. I think they really should emulate Microsoft and have global updates.

For anyone interested there is a PixelJunk Shooter (English | Japanese Ver.) demo in the HK store. Shooter is hands down my favorite downloadable game of 2009. Everyone with a PS3 should already own it, but if you don’t have it yet check out the demo.

A lot of demos added to the HK store are usually in English and certain demos aren’t even released in the US so having a HK account comes in handy on rare occasions. There’s no official word on whether or not the demo will be in this weeks US update.

    PixelJunkie for life!
