id Software is one of the most important developers in video game history. Their games like Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein are classics in the first person genre. Their engines have helped push the industry forward technically with each release. John Carmack is considered by many to be a gaming god. This studio, their games, their engines, and their main man are pretty important to gaming, so let’s talk about what they’ve been working on the past couple of years….
Capcom Announce New RE5 DLC for Multi-Platform
Capcom is not finished with giving us more Resident Evil goodness. Information from them explains the return of some of our favorite cast members of the Resident Evil franchise’s past. Who can forget the first time you entered into the mansion in the original Resident Evil game? I still remember the echo effects when you walked around the mansion’s hard wood floors.
Capcom:
Not only can you relive the terror of Spencer’s mansion in LOST IN NIGHTMARES, but now you take control of iconic characters from Resident Evil past. Making their return from the original Resident Evil, Alpha Team’s weapon specialist Barry Burton and the sole surviving member of Bravo Team, rookie Rebecca Chambers, are back to join the cast of THE MERCINARIES REUNION.
Brink Preview
Last E3, I was fortunate enough to go behind the scenes at the Bethesda booth and see a early build of Brink. I was blown away. The game looked incredible, but what really stood out to me was the ideas they had gameplay and storytelling wise. The game is a first person shooter, but they are doing so many small things that other FPS’s are lacking. Things that could help take the first person shooter genre further.
Assassin’s Creed 3: Ezio Again?

Slightly after Assassin’s Creed 2 dropped a rumor surfaced that the developers wanted to continue to the story of Assassin’s Creed 3 with Ezio returning as the main character. As most of you know this is very different from what happened between the first Assassin’s Creed and the sequel. With Assassin’s Creed 2 we got a new time period, protagonist, and location. Now it seems more and more likely that the third installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be set in the same time period with Ezio returning as the main character. This was slightly confirmed today during a third quarter financial conference call with Ubisoft who explained that gamers should expect to see Ezio again, only this time in Rome.
While I would love to play in Rome, I am slightly disappointed by this announcement. Reason being that the Assassin’s Creed team is so great at creating interesting open world environments and characters that I wanted to see what they had planned next. Rome is a great city, and there are plenty parts of Europe that Ezio can explore during this time period, but a fresh story is something that I think Assassin’s Creed fans appreciate. There are plenty of interesting time periods to consider like The French Revolution, The 30 Year War, World War II, The American Revolution, etc. The possibilities are endless for this franchise, so I hope that they do reconsider this. I love Ezio and Assassin’s Creed 2 is one of my favorite games this generation, but I’m willing to say goodbye to him to see what Ubisoft Montreal can conjure up in terms of a new story. Hopefully, they aren’t just doing this to cut down development costs and speed up production to pump out a sequel.
Rumor: Good chance we’ll see multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed 3. Co-op or competitive? We don’t know, but it is something that Ubisoft is looking at.
Metro 2033 Preview
Metro 2033, developed by 4A Games, wants to take you on a journey 20 years into the future in a world where life as we know it is only a figment of the past. The game takes place in what we would today consider Moscow, but Moscow as we know it, along with the rest of the world, has been destroyed by a nuclear war. Because of this what’s left of mankind has to live underground fighting off human groups, and nuclear mutated monsters from above. The monster enemies above are known as “The Dark Ones”.
4A Games wants you to get sucked into the world they are trying to create with this game. They want you to play this game as if you were actually in a nuclear holocaust fighting everyday to stay alive. The setting of the game really seems to be the standout of the game. Mankind is now living underground in the Moscow metro rail system. You will have these interesting human colonies underground, where each station is almost like it’s own city-state with different laws and lifestyles. Fighting underground is going to be claustrophobic and dark, and fear of the unknown is around every corner.
Alpha Protocol Preview
Sam Fisher and Solid Snake. Both known in the gaming community as the best spies in games. These guys have fought to protect their country and also fought to protect what they believe is right. They work in silence, but know how to take out the enemy when necessary. For years, both of them have dominated the stealth/action game type. Well this Summer, Obsidian and Sega hope to add another man to these ranks and that man is Michael Thorton.
Thorton is the main protagonist in Obsidian’s upcoming espionage-action RPG, Alpha Protocol. In the game, “Thorton is a talented young agent cast out by his government, Thorton is the only one with the information needed to stop an impending international catastrophe. To do so means he must cut himself off from the very people he is sworn to protect.” This game is not your typical spy game, but rather a RPG that allows your choices as a undercover agent to really have an impact throughout. The characters you meet, the missions you take, and the story that unfolds is up to the way you play the game.
Fallout: New Vegas Details (PC Gamer)

If you are a PC Gamer subscriber you are in luck. In this upcoming month’s issue, you will be treated to a six page layout on Fallout: New Vegas. Here are some of the details that have been leaked online by a post on the Bethesda forums and a post on fansite called Duck and Cover. Expect a lot of new news on Fallout: New Vegas in the coming month.
* There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn’t instant etc. Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.
* The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar’s Legion vs. New Vegas residents.
* You are not a vault dweller but are given a Pip-Boy by someone who is one.
* There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.
* There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new big gun with a backpack, held like a minigun.
* There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS – specifically a move for a golf club called “Fore” which seems to be a groin shot.
* The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.
* There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion
* The Geckos are back.
* There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin.
* Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a 1950s hairstyle who apparently is one of their leaders.
* Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul an NCR Ranger
* The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot
* Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels
* A character generation shot showing a “vigour machine” instead of the skill book
* NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar’s Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called Black Mountain. There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless reuve is mentioned as being in the latter. Area 51 also appears.
* NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger
* Skils have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a coversation about explosives where appropriate.
* There is a Reputation system in adition to Karma.
Very interesting. I’m interested to see what Obsidian does with the franchise. Sounds like they have some good ideas. Hopefully it plays as fun as it sounds.

New Just Cause 2 Trailer: Freedom
Ok, I gotta admit that this game is looking better and better with each trailer that comes out. At first, I was worried that the game was going to be a blast for a couple hors, and then get old. This trailer along with a couple others though make it seem like a great sandbox to play in. It may actually turn out to be what I wanted Mercs 2 and Far Cry 2 to be like. Check out the trailer, it’s pretty sweet.
Post Apocalyptic Exclusive For Windows PC
The game is in such a demand that it’s even on back order on Gamestop.com: see for your self
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat is an amazing looking experience but I will be able to get a better idea when I get a copy for myself. We can put this under PC Exclusive list of 2010. Check out the launch trailer below. Peace….
PC Gaming Is Alive, Thriving And Always Evolving
Their has been talks about windows based gaming is so called dead or at the very least in last place when it comes to heavy blockbuster title(s) availability. From my perspective nothing has changed at all. Let me be more frank.
I am not going to bash any other platform in this post. I will explain to you what my true thoughts are on the current affairs of PC Gaming. Hit the break for my run down.
Already Over 1 Million Accounts On Star Trek Online
Many MMO games have come and gone, but only a few actually live on for more than a year or more. I’ve been playing MMOs for over a decade now going as far back as Ultima Online and then Ever Quest (original) to the current F2P MMOs, Age of Conan and even log in from time to time on Final Fantasy XI Online.
As computers evolve into lower cost, higher performing systems many PC gamers are able to socialize and quest with a huge amount of other gamers across the world. Now let me not try and sugar coat the fact that MMOs like Age of Conan and Star Trek Online can be run on a medium setup to actually connect and play, the true greatness of these experiences are more represented when your playing on a more robust gaming rig.
Back in the day the visuals were OK at best but the gameplay and social aspect of any MMORPG were deep and very full filling to that generation of MMO(ers).
