The world of gaming is beginning to evolve. With the increased popularity of online gaming, there have been many predictions the one day online gaming will exceed offline console and pc gaming in terms of quality and popularity. No longer is online gaming confined to blackjack or poker. Most of the world's best games can be played online!

Drunken Gamer: Chapter 1

From the tip of my bottle to the bottom of my glass, I often times sit and reminisce the good ol’ days of gaming. Not just about how companies marketed poorly back in those days, but the progress of where games have come from and where they’re headed. What is the future of gaming? Would we even call it gaming in the near future? When we’re in our 60s and the grandchildren are playing the PS9, what stories could we tell them of the old days and how informative would we be about it? Who’s Actually Fighting In This Console War?

 

Console wars date as far back as 1989 when the Sega Genesis dropped.  Remember the blast processing ads featuring Sonic?  Sega and Nintendo went at it pretty hard, trumping each other every step of the way.  Sega pretty much held it’s own until Street Fighter II was released on the Super NES.  While it didn’t kill Sega’s success, it did put Nintendo on top as THE system to have.  The forums were nasty.  rec.games.video was a haven for flame wars.  It went from Sega vs. Nintendo to Sega vs. Nintendo vs. Sony and so on and so forth.  The only ones affected by the so called system wars were the gamers.  There were never any losers or winners as far as the game companies were concerned.  They didn’t give a shit about us gamers as long as we were spending our money on their games.  These wars continue to this day and so do the idiotic flamewars in game forums all over the net.  Read the rest of this entry »

Final Fantasy IV and V Advance Review

Lali-ho, there folks! If you had not idea what “Lali-ho” meant, it was a greeting or something back in Final Fantasy IV, which was called Final Fantasy II back in 1991 here in the US. It didn’t recieve much celebration that a normal Final Fantasy title would get nowadays in the US, but it was one of the stepping stones towards greater potential. As for Japan, it was considered to be one of the best Final Fantasy titles ever made due to character-driven plot and musical score by Nobuo Uematsu. If you have no idea who he is, wikipedia him.
