Review: Godfather II

Movies that are made into games simply suck. They are made to capitalize on the marketing hype of the movie and they are always rushed. The Godfather II was released YEARS ago…1974 to be exact! So with this game, there’s no movie tie in marketing, no rushed work and no buggy engine. This game was made to retell the story from a different point of view and for once, they got it right. Review: The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena

It’s hard to believe that five years have passed since we were all treated to The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Even to this date, I still reflect on how well-made that game was, from it’s exceptional graphics to the ambiance of the setting and, of course, to the extremely well implemented stealth system. Assault on Dark Athena brings you not only an updated re-make of Butcher Bay, but an entirely new campaign. How can you go wrong?
Review: Race Pro

Back in 2005 a studio in Vera, Sweden popped up by the name of Simbin. Simbin’s goal was to bring a fresh new and exciting racing simulator to consoles and PC, so they started working on GTR- Fia GT racing. GTR was supposed to be put out on PC via Atari and Xbox 360 via THQ, Atari held their end of the deal and the PC version got shipped. THQ, on the other hand, backed out and the 360 version didn’t come to fruition. Now fast-forward to 2009, Simbin’s racing sims have been held to the highest standard by gear heads around the globe, yet there has never been a console version. Well gear heads rejoice because Simbin’s Race Pro is upon us and boy does it ever cater to the hardcore. Read the rest of this entry »
Review: Myst for iPhone
One thing I’ve noticed throughout my life of gaming is that every so often a game is released that totally changes the way we think about and play video games. Be it incredible graphical achievements, an engrossing story line, or genre defining gameplay, when developers break the mold, it’s always the gamers that benefit. A true classic can engross players from all walks of life. From casual gamers, to hard core fanatics, a great game knows no niche. Read the rest of this entry »

Movie Review: Star Trek (2009)
Let’s begin with 5 simple words: this is not Star Trek.
It really is that simple. The new movie has several shades and flavors of the original series, and of course the hallmark characters, but – as pre-release media has made clear – J.J. Abrams has not so much “rebooted” the franchise (the popular term), as created something new with samples of the original spliced into the backbeat. That works great in (some) music; how does it do for one of the most revered sci-fi franchises in Western history?

GTA IV: The Lost And Damned Review

The Lost and Damned puts you in the shoes of Johnny Klebitz, the Vice President of the Alderney Lost MC chapter. Billy Grey, the chapter’s President, has been in rehab for a year. During this year Johnny has made truces with many gangs throughout Liberty City, enabling the Lost to become one of the bigger gangs in the city. As soon as Billy gets out of rehab all hell breaks loose because he wants to shoot first and ask questions later. This creates tension between Billy and Johnny, this tension serves as the main plot throughout the rest of the story. GTAIV’s storyline gets tied in beautifully and seamlessly and in turn adds more to Niko’s story. Ever wonder who kidnapped Roman? Or who that biker you killed for Faustin really was? All these questions are answered, creating a feeling of a bigger world within Liberty City. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Killzone 2

Killzone 2 hype began during E3 2005 when Sony first unveiled their infamous teaser trailer. Everyone believed it was CG and rightfully so. A week later former SCEA vice-president Phil Harrison stated that in fact, all the games shown at E3 2005 were done to PS3 specs. Since then the hype machine started growing bigger and bigger and many believed it would be Sony’s answer to Microsoft franchises Halo and Gears Of War. Has KZ2 delivered on all promises? Review: Magix Video Pro X
For years I’ve been using the Adobe suite for all of my editing. I love the work flow and all of the features. The problem with Adobe is that whenever there is some major new standard in video editing, they never update their software to utilize it. They force you to buy the next release to get the new features. For instance, when Premiere CS came out, they didn’t support native HD editing. You had to buy a 3rd party app to utilize it. Then when they started supporting native HD editing, they didn’t support all formats. AVCHD is the latest and greatest HD format. Premiere CS3 currently doesn’t support it. So instead of updating CS3 to support that format, Adobe would rather have you purchase CS4 to get AVCHD editing. Finished with Adobe at the moment, I started searching for other editors that worked with AVCHD out of the box. Ulead Pro, Vegas Video, Pinnacle 12 and Magix Video Pro X all support AVCHD. Magix was kind enough to send me a copy of Video Pro X to review. Since I’m editing something every day, it was a great opportunity to test it and post my findings. Read the rest of this entry »
