Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Review

When it comes to FPSs, I want them realistic. I am a long time fan of the Tom Clancy’s close quarter (Rainbow Six) and open range (Ghost Recon) series. In fact, the only “arcadey” FPSs I have ever enjoyed were Quake and Unreal Tournament (I am still a fan of the prior to this day). What makes those two games stand out? These are games where skill really prosper. Recently, FPSs and shooters in general are really popular. This had led to them becoming increasingly appealing to the casual market. What do I mean by this? There are lots of shooters on the market where the “Rambo” approach is not only a viable option, but is even encouraged. The weapons will bear the names of real weapons, but work nothing like they do in real life. Gun recoil is imaginary. In fact, guns apparently have no weight at all.

Review: Darksiders

On January 8th, 2010, Vigil games, in association with publisher THQ, unleashed Darksiders on the shores of North America. Now at first glance you might think that Darksiders is nothing more than a God Of War style hack and slash action game. Would that be a correct assumption? Well… Maybe half correct. Once you play Darksiders it becomes clear in just a few hours that, this game has a lot more to offer then just combos and screaming. Read the rest of this entry »

Borderlands DLC: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx Review

Gearbox Software’s sleeper hit Borderlands was released in late 2009 and was well received. To date, I have put countless hours into this game and loved every minute of it. If I were to make a list of games this generation that I was a fan of and consider staple games, Borderlands would make said list with no problems. I then checked email last Tuesday to find 2 redeem codes for the latest Borderlands DLC; The Secret Armory of General Knoxx (What shall I do with the extra I wonder?). This DLC includes a lot and takes up the hard disk drive space to show it (clocking in at about 1.7 GB). Here are the contents of this DLC: Read the rest of this entry »

Review: MAG

Sony made huge promises two years ago with MAG. We got a surprise announcement at E3 about a game that will support 256 players. This was unprecedented in console gaming. With the power of the PS3 and Zipper Interactive’s history, I was confident they could pull it off. Although the first beta I tested out left a bad taste in my mouth, once I played the final code I could rest easy. Read the rest of this entry »

TvC Arcade Controller review from Madcatz

Review: Bayonetta

I’ve had my eyes on Bayonetta for quite a while, especially after playing the awesome demo. If you are a fan of over-the-top action games, such as Ninja Gaiden and God of War, you’ll feel right at home with Bayonetta. In addition to being on the same level as those two series, this game adds in a rather unique and sexy female as the protagonist, along with a (Western) religious theme to set the mood. Sprinkle in some John Woo style gunplay and that pretty much sums up Bayonetta. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Dante’s Inferno (Death Edition)

Still waiting for God of War 3 to bring all the blood splattering action and mythical adventure to your PS3? Why wait for the main course when you can start off with the appetizer, one called “Dante’s Inferno.”

Borderlands DLC: Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot Review

Towards the end of 2009, I was lucky enough to be graced with a copy of Gearbox Software’s sleeper hit Borderlands on the Xbox 360.  What ensued for me is hours upon hours of cooperative elegance.  Borderlands was amongst my favorite games of the year, and has stamped its place as one of my favorite games from this generation. Ju-On: The Grudge Review

All most all gamers want to get into video game journalism for one reason: to review games. While I sure as hell shall not complain about being in it (free games + being paid to be a nerd = win), I have to set the record straight. There are times when we feel pain and anguish for accepting this badge of honor. There are video games out there that are BAD! I mean, really bad. Putrid even! Playing these games is torture. Enter Ju-On: The Grudge. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Final Fantasy XIII

It’s about time that we, fans of the Final Fantasy series, are finally getting probably the best looking JRPG on the PlayStation 3. Yes, I know that there will be an Xbox 360 version, but that’s for the US (and probably EUR as well). However, since I bought and played the PS3 version, this is what the review will be about. So you want to know if this game will be worth your money, amongst the other great titles coming out this year? Let me put it this way; It took me around 20+ hours just to end up at the open world, where I can freely roam around to grind CP.

NBA 2K10 Review Addendum

In all my years of doing game reviews, I’ve never had to go back and change a score. Now with the advent of DLC and game patches, developers are allowed to release games with bugs. It’s not fair to us gamers that quality assurance has gone from great to deplorable over the years. If you think about it, a game cartridge with 2D sprites had better QA than a newly released PS3 or 360 game.

2K Sports and EA Sports have traditionally released their competing sports titles on the same day. I have no idea why they do this but with EA releasing one of the their best Live versions to date and 2K on their 10th anniversary, they must have felt the pressure. I really don’t think 2K Sports would have lost sales had they waited until most of the bugs were fixed before releasing the game. NBA 2K has a huge fan base and with this version of the game, there are rumblings that it’s their worst outing yet. So after waiting for the first patch to release and playing many games, Matt Jenkins had to lower his NBA 2K10 score. The full addendum to his review is after the jump.

Torchlight Review: Link The Loot

TorchlightA_1600x1200

Opening Overview

Link the loot? That’s the best fucking punchline I could come up with?! How about Diablo II, or oh my god this game fucking rocks?! Wow I am lame as shit! Anyways, if you like games such as Diablo or Hack n Slash Dungeon Crawlers in general, you will love this game. It is crack for the hardcore gamers who have been wanting a Diablo or something of its likeness for some time, and will easily get mom and dad hooked to it’s simple yet complex game play. However, if you’re one of those people looking for a benchmark or intricate story, Read the rest of this entry »

Review: DJ Hero

Well the wait is finally over and DJ Hero is in our hands. More music, more family fun, more DLC and more press releases from Activision are on the way. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t too impressed with the concept of DJ Hero at first. I thought it was too gimmicky. Then I finally got to try it out and thought it was a blast. It’s more fun than Guitar Hero and more true to it’s real life counterpart. Read the rest of this entry »
