Review: Guitar Hero 5

Since it’s inception in 2005 Guitar Hero has become a household name, appearing in movies, television, and causing the creation of a number of music sim clones trying to cash in on it’s success. Neversoft changed the franchise from guitar-centric to supporting an entire band with the release of Guitar Hero: World Tour in 2008, but many thought that it was an inferior experience compared to that of music sim rival Rock Band. Is the Guitar Hero franchise done for, or can it be saved? Guitar Hero 5, the newest addition, might just be exactly what the doctor ordered. Read the rest of this entry »
Runic Games Interview

I recently had a chance to conduct an interview with the fine folks from Runic Games. If you haven’t heard about their soon-to-be-released Torchlight then I urge you to read the following for some enlightenment. The name Runic Games may not sound too familiar either since it was just recently formed, but take a gander at the first question for an answer that may surprise you. Without further ado, I bring to you, my very first interview (wow maybe I’ll go into poetry instead of journalism…). Read the rest of this entry »

Batman: Arkham Asylum Review

Ever since I had the chance to experience the demo, I knew that Rocksteady had something potentially outstanding on their hands. We were shown some excellent combat, stealth, and visuals, as well as the opening to what could possibly be one of the best Batman storylines to date. However, could Rocksteady’s finished product be as good as what we had been shown? You can form your own opinion, but I was miles and miles away from disappointed. Read the rest of this entry »
Video Game Retrospective: Batman

Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum drops in just two days across North America and those who have played it are already hailing it as the best Batman game ever released. I’d like to take this time to have a look back at some of the finer Batman games that have preceded Arkham Asylum. So sit back, put on your nostalgia glasses and utility belt, and enjoy. Well, we’ve reached the end of July and the year is just past half-over. In the first half we saw great RPG release such as…..well, there was Fallout DLC. In the next couple of months we are going to see an avalanche of new releases not just limited to the RPG genre, but for video games in general. Just When You Thought Kids Were Too Cool For Retro Gaming
One of the greatest things about being a gaming dad is that I get to expose my son to all the cool stuff I’ve acquired over the years. I have a Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, Wii, Xbox, PS2, 360 and PS3. My Saturn library is huge as is my PS1, PS2 and Dreamcast libraries. My son had a graduation party today and I thought I would do what I used to do growing up…throw a video game tournament. OWR Goes LAN Gaming On The Xbox 360
So what exactly does OWR mean? It’s a symbol of great pride for some and makes others cringe in fear as soon as they see those three letters together in another’s game handle! It may cause hatred in some, due to being pwned all the time, and happiness in the hearts of others, after pwning others. But the true meaning that they are trying convey is F…U….N!
