Mass Effect 2 Leaked

Yay it’s here already, and all you have to do is torrent it, yay!…..Wait that’s not something to be celebrating about. In fact that is probably one of the worst things that could happen to a game right? Well other than it sucking(Haze you know who you are). Anyways yes the game is out to torrent, and those of you who do have a modded 360 could play it. But! Before you head over to your favorite site and open your clients, lets take a moment to think. Leave your excitement outside, because we have some very un-sexy things to talk about when it comes to pirating 360 games. Read the rest of this entry »

Fanboys Just Don’t Understand

Hello my fellow gamers. This was never meant to be an official post, but I figured I might as well share my thoughts with you all. Better than sending them out into the vastness of the internet to be lost amongst the clutter.

I decided to check the internet for the status of the Tekken co-op and Mokijin patch because I felt like being lazy and didn’t want to actually turn my PS3 on. What I found were conversations on the patch itself and what they would have preferred to have been patched versus what’s actually getting patched. For awhile the conversations made valid points, but just like always some fanboy had to add their 2 cents.

Mr. Fanboy blames Tekken 6’s faults not because of lazy developers, but because of the 360. How is it the fault of the 360 that Tekken 6 is missing a lot of features there were in Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection? T5DR’s file size with all of the gallery items included is less than 1GB. In my opinion there shouldn’t be any problem “squeezing” all of Tekken 6 on a DVD versus a Blu-ray.

In all of my complaining about Bayonetta never did I blame the 360. How can a piece of hardware be at fault for what humans do or don’t do? In hindsight Bayonetta is a better than awesome game that I’ll be getting a platinum trophy for tomorrow. Even after getting all of the trophies there are still plenty of unlockables for me to acquire and it’s going to take a while for me master the game. I think what stands out most is that I want to master Bayonetta.

People really shouldn’t blame PS3 or 360 for the way a game turns out on release day. Put that blame where it belongs — with the developers and publishers who get lazy and half ass their work. Don’t put out a crap product and then you won’t have to spend another 3-6 months playing catch up trying to patch a game. Maybe hitting a specific release date is more important that putting out a quality product, but what do I know.

Gameplay Matters Most (updated)

It’s not unlike me to flip through old gaming magazines strictly for the nostalgia. Yesterday was no different when I picked up an issue of Tips and Tricks published back in 2000. If you do the math, that’s a decade ago. The more things change the more they stay the same unfortunately.

Be All That You Can Be

It’s your typical cold winter day in Canada as I make my way down the icy sidewalk towards my destination. I arrive at the establishment’s glass doors and enter to the sensation of fresh popcorn’s scent entering my nose. This is my hometown’s only movie and video game rental store, and I’ve spent nearly all of my 15 years of gaming (5/6 of my entire life) as a customer of the place. I walk half of the huge open space and find myself before a familiar sight, the newest video game releases. I glance up and see some of the latest names like Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2, and various other games that are probably sequels, but none of these are the game I am looking for. As I walk along the rack what I have come for finally catches my eye. I remove the small red octagon token from its Velcro base and bring it up to the cash. The game I have rented is Pandemic’s final effort, the World War II third person action-adventure noire game that goes by the name of The Saboteur. How many days did I rent it for? Two. All I need is two days. Why you ask? Because The Saboteur is the story of an Allied war hero who seems to have a talent for taking bullets to the face without dying and who will no doubt singlehandedly take down a huge chunk of the Axis forces. Yeah, I think I’ve heard this before. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s your GOTY?

Hey there Bitbaggers, The guy who’s fat but never eats here talking. Today I was standing in line at the bank, and whilst giving twitter shit I started thinking to myself, “What is the big obsession with game of the year?” So that got me thinking, “with all the gamers out there, what does a  few opinions from a few sites matter? Everyone has been getting on Jaffe’s ass for saying his favorite game.” Again that got me thinking, “How about we have a social experiment with the fans of the site?”  Which inevitably led to, “How in the world would I do this,” and “Where should I have lunch?” The answer was Wendys. Where Has The Respect Gone In NHL Games

avery_finger

It’s the 3rd period and the score is 1-1. The game is down to the wire, tension is high, and only one goal could make or break you. The crowd goes wild because your opponent has just scored a go ahead goal. You look at the time and notice there’s still 8 minutes left and you breathe a sigh of relief because you’re still in the game. BAM! Your opponent has possession of the puck and starts to go in circles in his own zone. Read the rest of this entry »

Bleeps and Bloops: One of Gaming’s Greatest Virtues

music-notes-banner

Music. Music is the art form of sound which is enjoyed throughout the entire world, and perhaps even beyond it. The true definition of what constitutes music has been debated for years and years with no resolve, but I personally consider it to be any audible sound which results in the enjoyment of a listener. This means that the definition of music changes depending on the person. While what one considers music changes from person to person, few would argue the fact that gaming has brought us some truly amazing soundtracks year after year. From Kondo to Uematsu, from O’Donnell to Tallarico, gaming has been blessed with a number of outstanding composers. Why is it then, that it still remains one of the most overlooked features in a game? How often do you hear “Yeah I thought the bgm on the 5th stage was some of the best stuff I’ve heard in years” in casual gaming conversation, compared to “The detail in that level was outstanding, very easy on the eyes”? This is more than just bleeps and bloops, this is music in gaming. Read the rest of this entry »

PLAYXPERT ANNOUNCES LATEST SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS® 7 AND DIRECTX® 10 (Impressions)

PX Main

I just received an update from PlayXpert and I like what I see. PC gamers are always having to sign up or create multiple accounts to game with their buddies online when playing a PC game. The time is upon us for a do it all, connect it all and voice for all software application for Windows PC gamers. Rejoice, it’s PlayXpert time. I’ve been testing out this product for a while now and to be quite honest, most of the time it crashed or didn’t work at all until now.

The Joe Vriens Interview

Not many of you may know, that aside from gaming, I have a strong passion for drawing. I have been drawing pretty much since I knew what pencils and paper were. While I don’t draw as often as I used to, I still appreciate the talent of others. With the release of Marvel vs Capcom 2 finally hitting PSN this week I decided I wanted to do something special for gamers who also happen to be fellow art enthusiasts.

Fighting In 2009

Over the past couple of weeks I have been discussing the games of 2009 that I’m looking forward to as well as the games that have already made it to market. More specifically the fighting games of 2009. With the release of the limited edition retail version of Marvel vs Capcom 2 hitting Gamestop this week, I thought it might be nice to take a look back at and offer my take on 2009’s fighting games.

Xbox Live! Games on Demand to cost an arm and a leg (price comparison)

Today was supposed to be a great day for Xbox Live! users as the new “SUMMER” dashboard update
was released to all connected Xbox 360s. For the most part the update has been well received and from what I have been seeing on Twitter and Facebook everyone seems to like the new features on Netflix and a ton of little tweaks to the UI for a more enjoyable experience. Now I for one love the Xbox 360 so please don’t think of this as a hate letter to Microsoft or the Xbox team. I am merely here to offer information to XBL users of a huge rip off (IMO) that is taking place right in from of our faces and that is the pricing of the games available on the new Game on Demand offering. I have never seen such a huge price difference in digital distribution vs retail pricing on any other platform. The following information is only here as a reference point and the prices are as of Aug. 11th and can change at any time from this point forward. I did a back and forth with XBL Games on Demand and Amazon.com for my comparison, so take this how you may. Read the rest of this entry »
