Recently, Gearbox Software?s Randy Pitchford announced the studio?s plans for 2017. More than just generic congratulatory and appreciative comments for its fans, Pitchford revealed a newly formed Canadian studio that is working on an unknown game. This game will be announced this 2017. Will there finally be information about Borderlands 3?
According to Pitchford?s Twitter account, Gearbox Software founded the Gearbox Quebec studio which is working on a game for 2017. The mystery game is expected to be announced this year, but it’s unknown if it?ll also be released this year. Fans speculate that this mystery game is actually Borderlands 3.
Gearbox Software?s 2016
Last year, Gearbox Software released Battleborn, an online hero shooter that didn?t have a strong following to it. Ultimately, the game lost to its rivals, Blizzard Entertainment?s Overwatch and the free-to-play Paladins in terms of audience and active users. Currently, Battleborn?s population is still at an all-time low despite its great potential as a competitive game. Even Take-Two Interactive?s Strauss Zelnick said in a conference that Battleborn is a disappointing game, according to Dualshockers.
Due to Battleborn?s performance last year, Gearbox Software may focus on making Borderlands 3 soon. In a previous panel, Gearbox Software positively identified that Borderlands 3 is their next game in development. However,?fans may not have expected the twist when?Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition was announced at?The ?Game Awards 2016. Gearbox Software may have to make it up to their fans sooner or later.
Borderlands Still Alive
So far, most of the Borderlands entries have aged a few years since their release. Borderlands 2 was released last 2012. Meanwhile, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel ?was released in the following year. However, these games were bundled into ports for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the ?Borderlands: The Handsome Collection? last 2015. The Borderlands 2 fan base also has an event running today called ?The Hunt 2017? where players must find certain rare guns and show it on Twitch. At best, Gearbox Software still has Borderlands fans waiting for them, so they should go ahead and announce it.
