Back in January, Google launched the beta for Android 7.1.2. On March 20, the second beta has officially arrived for devices that are enrolled in the Android Beta Program. If you are one of those whose device is running the first beta, then you should definitely try the new one. Here are the details you need to know.
First thing to know is that the list of supported devices is still the same for this beta. According to GSM Arena, owners of Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Huawei Nexus 6P, LG Nexus 5X, and Asus Nexus Player are the ones who are capable of trying Android 7.1.2 before anyone else. Those owners will see the new software with a build number of NPG47I.
Android 7.1.2 Second Beta
According to Android Central, the second beta will fix some bugs from the initial version released in January. But, the most interesting inclusion of this version will come to the Nexus 6P. The publication noted that the popular “swipe-down-for-notifications” shortcut is now available on the handset, which first arrived to the Nexus 5X on the first update.
Users of Nexus 6P can see it under the “Moves” area in the settings app. Although it came a month later than the time it arrived on Nexus 5X, still, consumers are just happy it is now live on their handset. On a bad note, the feature is only available on these two devices and owners of other phones should have to wait a little longer.
Android 7.1.2 Public Release
As mentioned, only those who are enrolled in the Android Beta Program have the access to the beta version. Now, the same GSM Arena post claims that the public might get their hands on the update on April 3 during security patches. Should that be the case, then Google would fail to follow their quarterly release cycle for new updates on Android Nougat.
However, the next month’s launch will only be available for Nexus and Pixel devices. Those who use other handsets will still have to wait for months before seeing Android 7.1.2 on their phones. But, do not take that as bad news because the update is only about bug fixes and small enhancements.
