Newly crowned Miss World 2013 Megan Young strikes people who frequently interact with her as a fashion-savvy and smart lady. She actually has a good sense of what happens next and where she wants to go. This has contributed to the goals she has set out to accomplish this far.
Making people aware of things, be it fashion or other lifestyle trends, is nothing new to the 23-year old lass. Born to an American father and a Filipino mom, she moved to Olongapo City, Zambales at the age of 10. Megan became widely known in the Philippines when she emerged as part of the top six finalists in the Filipino talent show, “Starstruck.” That show gave her the exposure that would jumpstart her career in the Philippine entertainment industry. She went on to guest in tv shows, share fashion tips in lifestyle magazines, and host numerous shows for Studio 23 network. She became a regular fixture on television.
What regular tv viewers immediately noticed about the lovely and poised young lady is that she is very articulate. A goal-oriented and positive attitude, plus the ability to express herself well, have served her in good stead. Megan’s communicative ability has been showcased in the lifestyle tv show “Us Girls” which she co-hosted with other pretty and eloquent female tv personalities. Her interests go beyond hosting stints, though. Prior to joining a prestigious beauty pageant, Megan has juggled her time fulfilling her tv work commitments and completing course requirements at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, where she enlisted in a course in digital filmmaking. She also cooks and is a foodie; she loves chocolates, taho, fishballs, pizza & waffles.
Conveying a message through film is one of the things Megan Young has always wanted to do, Hence, when the opportunity to be part of the primetime sexy drama series “Misibis Bay” presented itself, she accepted it. She played a villain in the show, which had as backdrop the luxury resort Misibis Bay in Albay (hence, the title of the mini series). The show was a great way to showcase the beauty of a tourism spot like the Misibis Bay paradise island in Albay. When not busy acting or hosting, Megan loves hanging out with friends in hip spots in Manila, or curling up with a good book at home.
Megan’s rise to stardom was slow but steady. While other Filipina actresses were getting big breaks in their career, she was waiting on the sidelines, focused on doing her best in the things she has committed to accomplish. She was slowly getting noticed for her hosting ability, though. As fate would have it, a close friend of hers, actor-model Mikael Daez, happened to introduce her to the head honcho of a talent agency which had trained several winning beauty queens (among them, Shamcey Supsup, Arielle Arida, and Venus Raj). Under his wings, Megan learned the ropes of projecting herself and moving like a true blue beauty queen.
