GameStop reminds console giants used games are important

Used games are an important segment in the gaming business that generates up to $1 billion in trade credit and 70% of that goes to buying new games and consoles. That’s $700 million going towards new products, not pre-owned.

In an interview with Forbes, GameStop president Tony Bartel is reminding Microsoft and Sony about these numbers and the importance of used games on their new consoles.

He mentioned recent surveys shows that “60% of video game consumers would be less likely to purchase a new console that did not play pre-owned games.”

Sony confirmed that the PS4 will be able to play used games but it could be limited in some way.
