Last month, Ubisoft released the latest sequel to the hit Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin Creed 3, across PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. It is actually the fifth title of the series, a direct sequel of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Assassin’s Creed 3 has a new engine, an additional multiplayer mode, and an exciting naval battle mode in single-player gameplay. Ubisoft has reported that it has sold more than 7 million copies of the game already (across all platforms), making it the fastest selling game title for the company.
Assassin’s Creed 3 is set in the late 18th century when the American Revolution was in full swing. The protagonist of this installment is half-English, half Native American Connor Kenway, who strives for justice against the authorities. You would also spend some time playing as the connecting character of the series, Desmond.
Assassin’s Creed 3 has a new game engine, but it doesn’t add many new things to the game. The combat is more fluid and simpler, with new block, attack and execution sequences. The free-running mechanics have received an upgrade too. The sound effects and the overall graphics & scenery are outstanding. The overall gameplay is Assassin’s Creed to the core – a bland sequence of assassinations, not-so-special chases, and other chores. But there are two locations of the game, which make Assassin’s Creed 3 a nice gaming experience– the Homestead and Naval battles.
Davenport Homestead is Connor’s home base. Here, one can spend quite some time building relationship with non-playable characters, fleshing a tight community and even running a store. In the naval battle, you take control of a combat ship. It is a sequel of awesome explosives, memorable escapes and a taste of historic sea-battle situations. The multiplayer mode has a new Wolfpack mode, which is basically a cooperative multiplayer mode in addition to a competitive one.
Assassin’s Creed 3 isn’t a refreshing addition to the franchise, but is good enough to carry forward the title. With a 7 million sales figure, Assassin’s Creed 3 seems to have been accepted well among the gamers.
