Developer Riot Games moves to deactivate League of Legends skin codes to minimize scams

The number of League of Legends players scammed into buying rare skin codes is rising; these rare skins have expensive price tags and after paying for them online, the products are never delivered to the players. Because of this, the game’s developer, Riot Games, has announced that it is deactivating previously released skin codes in an attempt to diminish third-party sites selling those fraudulent skin codes.

In the past months, the trend of buying and selling special codes from third-party sources to obtain extra gaming content has been taking the gaming world by storm. Aside from the burgeoning League of Legends codes “black market,” players of the popular Call of Duty: Ghosts games are also benefitting from the codes buy-and-sell trend.

One method that Riot Games has placed to monetize the free-to-play League of Legends game is by selling skins. These content codes are used to change the appearance and color of the playable character. Apparently, Riot has also allowed the third-party sources to sell these skins. But they now realize, belatedly, that there’s no way for players to differentiate legit sellers from scammers.

As such, Riot Games has spoken to different online payment processors to withhold service to fraudulent websites.  They are also moving to deactivate skin codes released prior to April 2014 as these skins do not have expiration dates, unlike later releases. For players who do have a legitimate skin code that needs redeeming, they would have to send their proof of ownership to League of Legends Player Support.

Developer Riot Games has aired their side on this issue. This is what they said as posted on the League of Legends website:

“Getting scammed sucks. Unfortunately the internet is full of shady people who take advantage of others. At Riot we strive to protect players from these scammers, and recently we’ve noticed an increase in fraud around 3rd party skin sites and skin reselling.

These sites promise limited edition skins for League of Legends, when in reality they acquire codes illegitimately and exploit players. They charge excessive prices (we found one skin for over $1,000!) and sometimes take payment and never provide the content. You can’t predict the outcome, and no purchase is ever guaranteed regardless of what the seller says. To make matters worse these services typically use bots. Bots are lame to play with and chew up additional server bandwidth, negatively impacting everyone.”

Apparently, Japan cannot “let go” of Frozen, one of Disney’s most overrated movies. If you are a fan of Disney musicals and a PS4 gamer, then here’s something that you can totally enjoy. Take the first look at Sony PS4’s Limited Edition “Frozen” System. We surely hope that parts inside does not freeze nor get covered in snow.

Unfortunately, it is only available in Japan. However, it is not surprising to see things like these pop out all of the sudden. Disney’s Frozen has been the country’s box office number one for 16 weeks, until another Disney movie, Maleficent, came up and took its spot. However, Elsa is still taking Japan by storm.  And when you say storm, Elsa causes blizzards. Frozen is said to be the 5th highest grossing blockbuster film in worldwide history, closing in to Marvel’s The Avengers and kicking out Iron Man 3 from its previous spot.

Even though most people are already putting on earplugs, “Let it go” seems to be the most persistent musical composition of today’s generation. Even guys who does not even like it initially, ended up buying an entire album of Frozen’s songs. Everyone with kids has a copy of the movie on their shelves and the song has been on repeat in most radio stations worldwide.

Now, with the Frozen PS4 Limited Edition coming out in Japan next week, you should know several things. The PS4 Limited Edition will not be as white as snow, but it will be the traditional black PS4 with Elsa and Anna on the hard drive bay cover. If you are planning to purchase the PS4 Limited Edition, you will not get a copy of the Disney movie nor its soundtrack. You can get it for ¥42 980 (or roughly $425 USD or €310).

However, PS4 sales are quite slow in Japan compared to North America and Europe. The new bundle might change that.

To celebrate Naughty Dog’s 30th anniversary, they will be holding a fan art design contest. Fans were prompted to make their own artwork related to Jak and Daxter, The Last of Us and Uncharted to bag some definitely nifty prizes.

Now, you have certainly noticed that a relevant name has been missing in the list, and yes, that’s Crash Bandicoot, which by the way made Naughty Dog popular  to begin with.
In the comments on the PlayStation Blog, some fans asked whether the infamous Crash could be included. Unfortunately, Eric Moncelli’s (Community Strategist) answer was negative.

“Sorry, no Crash… :(

Some other fans asked if they could ask Activision, who owns the right for the IP to include Crash, and again, Monacelli’s reply was negative, unfortunately.

“We asked. It’s not something we can offer for this.”

To the fans living in Europe who wants to join the contest, they can enter but they will not be eligible for prizes, Monacelli added.

Interestingly, the unfortunate denial of Crash Bandicoot comes as Andrew House (Sony Computer Entertainment CEO) told The Telegraph the he would not definitely close the door on a possible return of the franchise.

Now, let’s get back to the contest. Below are the prizes that will be given to winning contestants.

One of the regular fighters in Mortal Kombat series has returned. Raiden, the Lightning God is coming to Mortal Kombat X with three varied fighting styles.

NetherRealm Studios, the developer of the upcoming game, has shown the fighting styles of its latest character in a preview shown at EVO 2014.

Here is the trailer preview of Raiden’s combat skills.

Thunder God Raiden – Electrocution Combos

The character’s first fight style is called Thunder God Raiden. He utilizes various electrocution combos to inflict heavy damage to his opponents. Raiden could also use the combo as his finishing move.

Displacer Raiden – Teleportation

Ed Boon, one of the co-creators of Mortal Kombat, explained Raiden’s second style in an interview. Known as Displacer Raiden, this style showcases his teleportation ability. Raiden could teleport on either left or right side of his opponent. This style could also help him escape when cornered by his opponent, and enable him to launch some counter moves.

Storm Lord Raiden – Lightning Traps

Storm Lord Raiden is a style that has never been used by the character in all previous Mortal Kombat games. This particular move allows Raiden to set up lightning traps that will ensnare and inflict damage to his opponent.

Raiden will toss two lightning bombs that will create a continuous current. This will enable the character to control a wider area of the fight arena, and this move will certainly be a favorite among players who prefers to keep their opponent at bay, or at least give Raiden some breathing space.

In Mortal Kombat 9, Raiden was the central figure in the story but that will no longer be the case in Mortal Kombat X. Though, he will still be among the key figures in the upcoming game.

Raiden first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat and has always been present in the succeeding game series. Raiden is portrayed in the game as the Protector of Earthrealm and the Thunder God. Raiden usually wears a white robe with a blue vest. He also wears a straw hat that shades his face.

Xbox is a console that has since fallen on hard times. While it enjoyed dominance over others with the release of the Xbox 360, with the One, it isn’t doing quite that good. There are gamers who said that they won’t want to buy one; others, though, are still going to go ahead and pick up a unit. Despite the bad press, however, Xbox is rewarding their loyal market.

There is the tale of that one gamer who booted up his Xbox 360 console and was surprised to receive a rebate of $75. That’s a really big amount there, considering all you need to do is get up from your couch, walk over to your nearest game store, and pick up one of those shiny new Xbox Ones raring to be unboxed in the comfort of your living room.

Microsoft was willing to pay $75 for Xbox 360 owners to pick up one of their Xbox One units. It effectively slashes the price of the Xbox One to just about $325 from $400. However, depending on whether you’re going to use that amount to get games or add peripherals, which does remain to be seen.

In this article from, a user of the Xbox 360 booted up his own, and was greeted by a message that thanked him for all the years of being a loyal Xbox user. As a way of their thanks, the message said, they were giving him a $75 promotional code. The promotional code was good for purchasing either a stand-alone or a bundle console from the Microsoft Store or from the local retailer. The code can also be used on other things such as games, add-ons for the console, and movies. A link was also supplied along with the ad.

The standing condition for this, though, was to purchase and activate an Xbox One console from 12:00AM of the 7th to 11:59PM of the 31st of July (Pacific Time). This $75 credit will then be sent to the One’s message center by August 15. The buyer can use it to buy products until October of 2015 and has until the 15th of October this year to redeem it. If you can recall, a lot of games are scheduled to be released on October of this year, and the timing of this promotion is just perfect for Xbox One.

The said user was living in Canada, and had already bought an Xbox One. The message, however, stated that the promo was good only for the US and D.C.

Microsoft, when asked for a reply, confirmed that the promo was sent by them and is clearly not a hoax. A representative cleared out further that the promo was good for Xbox users living in the U.S, Canada, and the U.K.

Microsoft also stated that they are always on the lookout to bring promotions like this and others to their consumers. As of right now, though, Microsoft said that they had nothing further to share and add.

LG G Vista rumored to arrive on July 18 to Verizon users

After the successful launch of the LG G3 smartphone last May, it now appears that the South Korean device maker is heavily involved in other variants of the said flagship. According to the latest leak by EVLeaks, a device named LG G Vista is set to go on sale beginning July 18 via U.S carrier Verizon.

Prior to this leak, it was previously reported that Verizon is in line to get two new models from LG namely the LG G3 and the LG G Vista, which are intended to be launched on a dedicated event on July 17. Now with this fresh leak, that earlier rumor is somewhat confirmed as the new model is supposedly coming out the next day.

Furthermore, it seems that the LG G Vista is not the only G3 variant that the company has in the works. Talking in reference to LG’s previous USPTO trademark filing, four names have been suggested to be included in the company’s licensed trademarks: the G3 Lite, G3 Vigor, G3 Best, and the G3 Vista. Of these four, the LG Beat has  debuted in China and is touted as the mini version of the flagship G3 model.

The LG G Vista is seen as a variation to the LG G Pro 2 model and will feature a bigger screen. Aside from this, all other features appear to be on the lower end compared to the G3 and G Pro. This upcoming handset has model number VS880 and is reportedly set to cater to the users who want the Galaxy Note 3’s display size but do not need the up-market specs and hefty price that come with it.

The LG G Vista phablet will allegedly sport a 3,200 mAh battery, an 8-megapixel, full HD rear camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter. As you can see in the image above, the models design and form factor is also reminiscent of the LG G3 as evidenced by its power button and volume keys placed on the rear side.

So far, here is what we already know about the supposed specifications of the LG G Vista (VS880):

  • 5.5-inch (1280 × 720 pixels) HD IPS display
  • Snapdragon 400 (MSM8926) processor with Adreno 305 GPU
  • Android 4.4.2 (KitKat)
  • 9.1mm thick, Weight: 168 grams
  • 8MP rear camera with LED Flash
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • 1.5GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, expandable memory with microSD
  • 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, WiFi , Bluetooth , GPS
  • 3200mAh battery
