We know many still hold a hope that we will one day see Final Fantasy Versus XIII on the PS3. Final Fantasy Executive Producer Shinji Hashimoto reportedly made an appearance on Ginza SWING!! in Chuo-ku, Tokyo today.
When asked, Hashimoto was quoted as saying that the Versus XIII project is turning out to be be “unbelievably amazing”. Citing also the fact that the game has evolved considerably and it is still top priority to bring it out of development, finally putting it in gamers’ hands.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive back in E3 2006 alongside Final Fantasy XIII (yes, we know it went rogue) and Final Fantasy Type-0 (or known as Agito XIII back then). Little has been known about Versus XIII over the years apart of vague teasers, screenshots and countless rumors and speculation.
We know many people place Versus XIII as the savior for the Final Fantasy franchise which has undoubtly slumber over past few years. We’ll keep hoping, because we think this generation of consoles isn’t over yet.

You made me think there was a real announcement. I saw this on Google News and went “ZOMG, a real announcement, yes after all these many endless years, a real announcement!” And then it was just some dude saying “Yea, Versus. It’s pretty sweet. Yea, you’ll get it soon.” Just like the other over 9000 pieces of “news” lately. Fuck.

Our job to report them, no? If we don’t, people would be saying “why aren’t you reporting about anything FF Versus XIII?” And at least this “some dude” here is the executive producer. That’s a change, for once.
Meh, true. Sorry, I kinda exploded because I feel like I’m still missing a good lot of the picture. I guess I was expecting to see more after six years. I feel this “update” is the result of that Kotaku rumor about the game’s cancellation- it lit a fire under their butts so now they feel the need to update with little nothings like this so it doesn’t happen a second time. If anything, I should suck it up and expect more of these little nibbly crumbs-for-updates in the future.
