Sony trying to cut cost on PS Vita

Sony trying to cut cost on PS Vita

People like cheap or free,” says Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida. That’s certainly true and it’s no secret that the PS Vita isn’t boasting a very lucrative price point at the moment.

Sony’s engineers however are hard at work in trying to shave off the manufacturing cost on the PS Vita, all in order for Sony to sell it to us at a cheaper price.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Yoshida said  ”Of course, cost reduction is one area our engineering team is working on. But we just launched the platform earlier this year. It takes time to do so.”

The PS Vita hasn’t been enjoying particularly good sales since its launch day in Japan, this is despite Sony telling us time after time that they are satisfied with the handheld’s sales.

Unfortunately, the price cut isn’t going to happen this year as explained by Yoshida and if there is going to be a price cut, then we reckon it could only happen halfway through 2013 at the earliest.

For now, Sony will continue to release bundle releases with the PS Vita like the recently announced PlayStation All Stars PS Vita bundle or the Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation bundle.
