Command & Conquer Generals 2 is free-to-play

EA has confirmed and announced that Command & Conquer Generals 2 will be launching as a free-to-play title. Generals 2 will be part of the “3-universe” release in the new online “Command & Conquer” platform service.

The online-only platform will launch sometime in 2013 for the PC, with Generals 2 heading out to the warzone first as the launch title. The alternate universes of Red Alert and Tiberium Sun will also launch on the service in the future.

While Generals 2 will be free-to-play, this doesn’t mean that Bioware Victory is planning to skimp on the game’s quality. The game is being built with the Frostbite 2 engine and visually the game will be made to look as good as it feasibly should, with fully destructible environments, dynamic physics and “exhilarating” visual effects. Generals 2 will continue to develop after its release and the developers has promised to keep evolving the game through fan feedback.

If you’re itching to get in on a closed beta programme for the game, make sure to register yourself over at the official website.
